I agree with the first posters: Rocky Marciano (49-0).
And russiashock, you spelled it correctly, though that's a more Americanized version of his name (which I believe was something like Rocco Marchegiano).

Rocky Marciano 49 Wins - 0 Losses, Larry Holmes was hot on the trail when he lost a close decision to Michael Spinks. After the loss, Holmes' attitude turned for the worse. He began, shoving the media out of his way and profanity became common dialect. But the worst of all, the thing that depicted Larry as a sore loser, was his frequent derogatory statements about Rocky Marciano, "Rocky Marciano couldn't carry my jock strap" was for me, the most memorable.
Currently, Valuev has a chance to surpass Marciano's 49-0 I for one, believe it would be very sad seeing as how a large percentage of Valuev's fights were in Europe against questionable opposition.

Rocky Marciano was the only undefeated heavyweight champion at 49-0-0 43 kayos. Gene Tunney was never beaten as a heavyweight but did suffer one loss during his career as a lgt heavyweight to Harry Greb.

Technically only Rocky Marciano retired undefeated at 49-0 with 45 KO's. There was another heavyweight in Gene Tunny though who only lost one possibly two fights in his career (depending on what record book you look at) to a middleweight in Harry Greb early on in his career.
He never lost a fight against any heavyweight and beat Jack Dempsey twice.
