color palette: medditerranean aqua blue, terracotta, rust, cinnamon, pale sage, burnt sienna, dark mustard,golden-tan, wheat.
accent colors: olive green, cream, black, brick red, teal, copper
textures: stucco, plaster, raw wood, wrought iron, terra cotta ceramic (tiles and pots) ,linen and burlap.
decor: keep it simple and earthy. avoid anything too frilly, fussy or flowery. one or two orante but rustic pieces of furniture such as a credenza or pair of armchairs is enough; everything else in the room should be simple and unadorned. try to create a space where you can feel lazy and informal. some large terracotta vases in the corners back-lit with floor level up-lighting are very effective and create the right atmosphere. window treatments should be plain (ecru colored linen on a wrought-iron rod.) flooring is best done in quarry tile, or slate.
use a lot of herbs, both inside and out. sage, rosemary, oregano, lavender, thyme. anything with a silvery-green leaf and with a musky aroma is good. keep bright florals to a minimum.eclectic but minimal collections of candlesticks and pottery and artwork. avoid gold and silver, instead go for bronze, copper, and wroughtiron.
architecture: gently curving arches; smooth, uncluttered lines;red tiled roofing; lack of heavy ornamentation (except in wrought-iron gates or grilles which can be quite elaborate); large but simple fireplaces done in earthy stuccos and ceramic tile hearths and surrounds. plain and raw dark wood trim, baseboards and windowframes. broad, shallow, wide steps.

Think wrought iron, grapes, roses, sunflowers, paintings of hillsides adorned with houses, narrow arches, rich hues of blues and yellows with earthtones and pastels, furniture set for coffee drinking and conversation. The more flowery or pastoral, the better. Your garden and landscaping should reflect arches and a strong use of flowers like hydrangea, irises, lillies, and peonies in addition to those mentioned above. You should also use a variety of potted plants to accent.
