Puppies do go through a chewing phase, just like real babies. Try the bitter apple spray from Petco on things like the table and basket. Kongs are terrific and they make them especially for puppies. Kong also makes "Puppy Ziggies" which you can stuff inside the puppy kong or give to them separately. Our puppy loved the Ziggies. Try "Dingo" bones - they are rawhide and have a meat smell that dogs really like. Our 7 month old puppy loves them and they keep her busy. Have a lot of different kinds of toys to chew if you can. Our puppy really liked the rope toys, so we got a few of those. Tennis balls are also good.

Also, as Cesar Millan (The Dog Whisperer) would say - keep the puppy ACTIVE. I find that if I keep the puppy really busy during the day, or give it a lot of activity - running, playing etc. She is exhausted. And that makes for a lot less inappropriate chewing.

Finally, don't allow your puppy to chew you. You have to tell it "no" or turn away and don't give it any attention. (As you know, never hit the puppy.) The puppy has to learn that nipping (mouthing) is not allowed. You can sign up free on line at www.purina.com and they actually have training videos on their site that are helpful and month specific.

Good luck!

Make sure he has lots of chew toys with different textures. He should not be left unsupervised during this training period (until he's not so mouthy). When he is out of his kennel or other safe area, (with you watching!) and he starts chewing on something he shouldn't, tell him NO in a firm, deep voice, but not yelling. If you need to get his attention, say his name loudly then when you have his attention, tell him no and give him an appropriate toy. Also, if it's something that won't be ruined by it, you can put stuff like Bitter Apple spray on furniture and other stuff he likes to mouth. It tastes really bitter so he won't chew it again, but beware, there are some really weird dogs out there that actually like the taste.

There isn't much that you can do at this point. Just make sure that he has toys to take out his biting on. Maybe some rubber toys or anything that he can just sit and chew on for a while. When my dog was teething he liked to play with ice. Just throw it on the floor and let him chase it and chew on it. It will also get him off your back for a while.

Get him or her a nyla bone with the nibs and make sure everytime he tries to chew on something he should not then distract him with the bone if he is anything like my dog his bone will be gone in 2 days though so keep a supply on hand. good luck to you and your new addition.

chew toys- Kong's are the best- just get the size of Kong that fits your dog, and its a great way to keep him busy by putting a treat inside it, it keeps my dogs busy for a long time.

get him a Kong. it's just like a baby, they have to do it. if you get him a Kong though, make sure he doesn't chew off chunks of it and swallow/choke on them. but if you're going to keep him, you're just going to have to live through this phase. good luck!
