i fully understand that the Bible is full of mystery and there are questions in this lifetime that only our savior can answer when we stand face to face with him. but out of curiousity i just want to ask why he created us in the first place. if the answer is to worship him, wouldnt it be enough already for his angels to bow down before him? i think he is selfish because he created us for just HIS own glory. if he ddnt create us we wouldnt have and will experience all the pain in life. if your answer is God created us because he loves us, i dont understand how he can love a thing that doesnt exist in the first place... hope you can clarify me with this

Why does an artist, a sculptor, seek to take a bit of clay, and make it into something, something beautiful?

Why does someone seek to find their 'true love' and fall in love with them, when being married to someone can and will bring all kinds of arguments and pain sometimes?

Think of it like that and it becomes easier to think about.

God just created us; he didn't create all the pain and mayhem that we, in our infinite stupidity as self-serving selfish people, cause. The pain that we go through in life is there because we are in a world that is fallen. We hurt because we were originally made for a world that was sweet and full of peacefulness. It was through the free will that he gave us--he gives us the ability to *choose* whether to spend our time in awe of him, or not--it was through our free will that our human nature became fallen. And now we have pain and hurt because *we* --*we* choose--many people in the world today choose to live life thinking only of themselves, and not the way the Creator intended: with everyone in love with the One who made them, and following his command to treat everyone around them with the same love.

I send you a hug. Life is a mess, I agree, but its reason is the same as it was when God made the world. It's like being invited to someone wonderful's house, and you decide to go and accept the invitation, and instead of a front yard, this house has a marvelous, georgous big garden in the front, with tall trees and hedges, and a lovely fountain, and the scented perfume of huge lush flowers growing everywhere, and through the garden is a little pathway that leads up to the house's patio door.
Life was meant to be more like that; a stroll through a beautiful place before going into the host's Home (Jesus is the host and the house is heaven, in this case).

Because of us, that garden is now filled with thorns, and lots of dried-up flowers, and the fountain's not so clean anymore.

But we're still going to be welcomed at that patio door!
..All because God sent Jesus to dig us out of our mess; his perfection and innocence was able to pay for us, forever.

By the way..thank you for your really good question. It was thoughtful, and really honest. I send you a smile. =) Hope to see you at Home. =)

You miss understand the "in His own image" true meaning. It means body, soul and spirit. This is the image of God we are made after. And I do agree the human race as a whole is very messed up. The fall of man is evident every where we turn. God is great and merciful. None of us deserve to even be let alone to be with him. He has given us that way to be with Him in spite of our failures. And He does this because He loves us. And we can make the choice in our own personal life to not commit terrible acts of evil, to not be incredibly selfish and not to destroy the planet we were told to care for. And God will give us the power to walk it out in our daily life if we look to Him as our strength. And He will take all things and work them together for our good if we love Him. Doesn't say all will be good but He will work it all for our good. So yes even if heaven was not an option I would still worship Him. He is our creator and worthy of our praise and worship. And for all He has done for me in this life and will do until my 80 are over I will worship Him.

I believe fully in God and yes He is a selfish God and says so.I often use to wonder why He created us myself.I use to wonder if we were just a pawn in the battle between Lucifer and God.I still don't know and since I am here and Gods does at least look out for me and Keeps me from the dangers of myself I will choose to worship Him,but believe me I often wonder what the heck is all this trouble for.Sorry I didn't have a really intelligent answer for you as i like to think I usually have spiritual answers always in my head, but that one is one I just don't know.

If God created us, I don't think it's because he's selfish, I think it's because he wanted some kind of pleasure. He already had angels so the story goes, but they were too perfect, and had no feelings. He wanted some spice and someone who is in his image, so they would continually try to be God. One of those Angels was the Angel of light, Lucifer, who can't create, became selfish and wanted what God had created, and challenged God, saying he could make people obey him, (something God can't do, because we are made in his image). God accepted the challenge out of pleasure, and gave Lucifer and his followers a set time to prove himself. Lucifer knows he will lose, but he will try to take humans with him to eternal suffering.

Our suffering here is temporary, and redeemable(if you believe in Christ's sacrifice), but only if you choose to stop following Lucifer's original advice(he tells you that you are a God), and realize that God is God. If not, your suffering will be eternal.

Think of accidentally burning your pinky finger on a lighted match: this is temporary. Now think of your whole body being on fire forever: this is eternal. Our whole time here is but a tiny spark.

I don't think pain and suffering was on God's agenda, but he is true to his word, and will give Lucifer his time before making him suffer for disobedience, the reason that there is pain and suffering for us is disobedience to God and obedience to ourselves (a God-like quality), which is the original sin, according to the Bible.

many times in the Bible it says that the Lord is a jealous God. He deserves our glory and praise, and he longs to hear the praises of His people, us. He does love us and he did create us to give Him glory.

Exodus 20:5
You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God

Exodus 34:14
Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

i for one am happy he created us...lol. and i want to give Him all that i can, even though there is no way i could ever thank Him enough for everything he has done.

If jesus is god, then god isn't really a narcissist.

the nature of god is to love and serve.

we only love god because he loved us 1st.

we only worship god if we acknowledge the abundance of his love.

i think god created us in his image with free will so that people would know what it is like to be god.

Many will choose to worship themselves or others who are not worthy of worship like Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson and objects like money, jewelry, big houses, big cars.....yikes!

While many others will choose to worship the one who is the only one worthy of worship.

well, if there is such a being as the Bible god he's a deeply disturbed individual so full of petulant insecurity that he gets spiteful, jealous and wrathful if any other god or goddess gets any attention.

sounds more like a self indulgent spoiled brat than a supreme being to me.

oh hey! maybe that's why Fundy Christians love George W. Bush so much. he resembles their god.

These are God's own words....

Exodus 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

God blessed us with life, a beatuiful world, etc. to worship someone else after everthing God has done for us out of His love for us is an insult to God. He has a right to demand our loyality. I praise Him for loving me as much as He does. Praise the Lord!!

I do not believe that God created us simply to worship him or for his own glory. That would not be my God at all.

Well the Bible is a beautiful book of mythology. Just like all the other "sacred and holy" books out there.
