You will not need a visa if you are a citizen of a country which is accepted by the US under the Visa Waiver Scheme. You just have to complete a form on the plane and hand it in at Immigration Control. Amongst others, citizens of the UK and New Zealand qualify under the Visa Waiver Scheme.

Just as others said previously...ONLY if you exit the airport terminal..(ie pass through customs) other than that you are considered to still be travelling (as if you never got off the plane) even though you may get off and board another one. There will be a designated waiting area for you. Enquire with check-in staff at the destination you leave from en route to the USA, just incase your stop over is delayed and you may need accomodation. But in cases such as this you may be permitted a emergency temporary visa.
If your travel agent hasnt given you a visa, dont worry about it!! have a good one!

It depends on the country your passport is from. USA has agreements with some countries and visas for others. I'd be asking a travel agent to help me sort out exactly what I need to ensure a problem free journey.

Good luck

No, as you are what they call a transferring passenger. You will not be leaving the airport so you are not officially in the USA unless you leave.

Sister in law has just gone back to NZ via USA and she did not need a visa - that was in Nov of 06.

"With the introduction of visa free travel to citizens of 27 countries, it is now possible for many travelers, including British citizens, to enter the United States without a visa under the Visa Waiver Program (WVP). Visa free travel is also available to qualified travelers who enter the United States on business or in transit."

For sure you need your passport but a visa like this person before told you I would check before with official site to make sure.

You don't say your citizenship. If you're a Canadian you do NOT need a visa.

I very much doubt it because you would be on a connecting flight and it's therefore unlikely you'd leave the airport terminal.

I would double check with your airline though, especially with all the security checks they have in the USA.
