Not as long as you give half your prophets to God.

Well, what do you do when you play poker for money. You are putting the things God has provided for you on chance of cards. The root of playing poker for money is making the quick buck apart from letting God provide. It is a selfish motive, one which I, myself, have wanted to partake in. It is a thrill and nothing more. But it is a thrill because deep down we're taking things into our own hands. This is just my thoughts though. I do play poker with my friends, but we don't play for money. Poker is fun, but it can be dangerous too.

It leads to all kinds of grief so yes it's a sin by virtue of the risks it involves. I found that out the hard way with Blackjack and roulette.

In general, Sin is Selfishness. The desire to get something for nothing is essentially wrong, and striving for more in a zero sum game, (where for one person to win, another will have to loose) is not good.
