I have tried swifters, paper towels and washcloths. From the side you can see a blotches of rough patches or something, it's beyond description. Is there any solution I could use without messing the screen up?

This is how he cleans each and every TV he calibrates and has for years with great success, plus it's hard to argue with someone who earns his living doing such. Oh, as a last bit of cautionary advice make sure you avoid any and all ammonia based products such as Windex as they will do irreparable damage to your screen. Do NOT use windex, whether on a paper towel, or anyway. Endust makes a product specifically for electronics. You can buy it at any grocery store, Walmart, Target, etc. It's about $3 for a can of it. Spray a little on a soft cloth and wipe down. Don't press on the screen, just wipe lightly. Never spray directly on electronics either. I am sure you know that.

I have always cleaned my LCD screens with a light spray of Windex on a paper towel and gently wiped the screen. This has never caused any damage to the screen
