I have been trying to potty train her on and off since she turned two. She hates to have a dirty diaper and understands what the potty is for. However, she refuses to use it. She will sit on it for awhile them she wants to get up, minutes later she wets her panties. If I just continue to put her in panties and deal with the mess will she eventully get the hang of it?

My daughter was just like yours. She knew what the potty was for and she would use it off and on, but when she got up is when she would pee.
I got tired of the constant mess and pee every place in the house. I put pull ups on her and decided to let her decide when she was ready. I was convinced that she would be graduating and still in diapers. On Thanksgiving 2006 she came to me with a pair of under panties and said I want to wear these. I put them on her and she has been potty trained ever since.
She decided, on her own when, she was ready to go on the potty. She was not going to let me decide.
But each child is different.

P.S....I tried everything, Treats, charts, taking her to buy her own panties....nothing worked.

First, she just might not be ready for the potty even though she is fully aware of its purpose. Secondly, have you tried running water on a trickle to see if that will entice her to go? Finally, what about a reward system? I used M&M's for my son who was 33 months old at the time. He would get 5 M&M's for urinating and 10 M&M's for bowel movements. he got tons of praise and high-5's for using the potty too. After about 2 weeks of success, I would only give him M&M's if HE remembered - otherwise I would continue to make a fuss with cheers and dancing etc. everytime he used the potty. We also had a "potty party" for him - nothing elaborate, just me and my husband and a small cake from Carvel. He opened 5 packages of brand new underwear and the final gift was a toy. All told, it took me 10 days to potty train.

Ive recently started training my 2 1\2 yr old daughter. At first she didn't want to use the toilet. I would put her on, she would do nothing then id put her Nappie back on and she would do it in there.

She eventually realised, after doing a few accidents on the floor that she has to use the toilet. Don't get mad at her if she does accidents or if she doesn't go to the toilet, just keep praising her for going to sit on the toilet she will eventually get the hang of it. You will always have one or two accidents but its a learning process for you and your daughter. You will both get the hang of it.

Maybe it's just too much pressure. Aren't there training pants that somehow help kids know when they have to go?

Also, try not hovering over her... let her sit there awhile, she'll get it... my parents went through the same thing with my brother.

And, I just have to say this - Pretty Mommy - you said "that's how I trained my 12 year old" which sounds like she was potty trained at 12, hehehehehe... obviously, we know what you mean, I'm just amused by that. :)

Role modeling that is how my boys learned to pee standing up from their father. Or get character underwears like dora and tell her don't pee on dora. My son thought it was funny so i started getting really strict with him letting him know it is not ok to pee go in his underwear and make him help clean up the mess. Also the daycare told me they ask the kids every 20 minutes.

give her pull-ups and tell her that panties are a privlege and she first needs to get that she can't pea in them. also you should buy her a treat if she does it right. thats how i trained my now 12 year old daughter.
