This is generally, but not always, the case. There are circumstances in which a US citizen parent did not reside in the US for more than 5 years after the age of 14, and only one of the parents is a US citizen, and the child does NOT automatically gain US citizenship. If your situation is in doubt, you may wish to consult a US consular officer in the country where you are living. And you might decide to fly back to the US to have your child so this can all be worked out.

yep.
Iwas born in Germany with English parents.
i am classed as British now and was issued British passport.
you CAN be registered in the other country as a citizen but unless its oz.UK or Canada would you want to?
I am told now i could apply for dual citizen ship but its not automatically available. So i think you have the option when registering the birth.
hope this helps a bit I'm bit sketchy on the detail now.
congratulations by the way

Your child is not only a United States Citizen (because he or she is born of a United States Citizen), but also holds a dual citizenship in the actual country he or she is born in.

yes if the parent(s) of a child is an american citizen then that makes the baby a US citizen. The 14th amendment also says that citizenship promised along with due process and equal protection under the law.

It all depends on your circumstances.
If you are LIVING in that country, then your child would be a citizen of that country, but if you are only visiting then they would be a US citizen. In both cases they may be eligible for dual citizenship.

Do not listen to these people. Your child is not immediately a citizen. You will have to prove many things before your child will be issued a United States birth certificate. Lot's of government red tape and whole lot of paperwork.
Have fun!

Yes, if the other parent is not a US citizen then your child can choose either as their nationality or have dual nationality
