I don't know about 7-up, but ginger ale is what we were always given as children when we had a stomach flu. If I recall correctly, it was flat gingerale. Ginger itself has anti-nausea properties and does a fantastic job of calming the stomach. I lived on gingerale and saltines during the first trimester of all three pregnancies and didn't throw up once :)

lol... HARDLY.
It's more or less true that it might HELP with the nausea, but it will not keep you from puking if you're about to throw up, anyways.
Try ginger tea, and alternate it with sprite or 7-up. Ginger does have anti nausea properties.

When I was a kid ( many yrs ago) grandma gave us 7up to sip on for an upset stomach. She also gave up warm Jello ( cooled to room temp) but not yet gelled. Both seemed to work.

Well, the actual Influenza virus doesn't make you throw up, I think you mean a Stomach Virus... It really depends, it does help dramatically in some cases, but if you can't hold anything down (i've been there) it doesn't help.

7 up helps your somach ache a bit. when you burp you are releasing some gas inside and you probably have more room for your food so you won't vomit it up.

Carbonated drinks can help, but it's important to avoid those with caffeine as they can make the problem worse.
