i work as a painter and have done it.... ames taping is done after the joiners have placed gyprock sheeting on walls and ceilings,you have corner tape for all your internal corners and from wall to ceiling,metal tape for your external corners and fiber tape for your joints from each board.you apply joint filler or fast set as some know it behind each tape you apply,then using a hawk and trowel or the machines give two coats of fast set and a coat of finish or velvet,hope this help best ov luck

Never heard of it so I did a bit of research on your behalf and it looks like it's used to give a good seal and smooth finish to joints in plasterboard etc. so you get a neat professional look to your finished job.
