They are about 5 feet tall, stainless steel and often found near, or hooked up to, signal boxes at streetcorners. They look like gas canisters. They also have what looks like a light bulb on top. I am asking in this category thinking traffic police may know what these are.

These are wastwater pump stations. Inside the can is usually 2 pumps that pump the wastewater or sewage to a treatment facility. They can range from 5 feet deep to 30 feet deep or more. The light on top is simply an alarm that lights up and usually a horn sounds when a problem occurs with the system.

they are receptacles for hiding bodies when you have no other place to stuff them. how is that a law enforcement question?
