Kinetic Energy - the energy that is used to do work (i.e. typing this answer of a keyboard)

Potential Energy - the energy present in a body that is capable of work, but is in a state of storage/reservation (i.e. sitting down in a chair)

P.E. can be quickly converted to K.E. through any action. Once the action is completed and the body in question no longer is working, the remaining energy reverts to P.E. All energy is neither created not destroyed ... it just changes forms.
