Deep breath, sweetheart. Hang in there.

First, take Mom and Baby to the vet's - now. Don't wait, especially since it is so important to you personally to keep the baby alive for the sake of your Dad (in memory of him). You will feel better if you do all you can, and the best choice is to get to the vet's. Truly, your chihuahua may still be in labour, but you want to keep that new baby hydrated. A baby needs to nurse, and often. If Mom is still in labour, she could be encountering problems, in which case she definitely needs some expert help.
Oh, and ps... I'm really sorry to hear about your Dad.
This is really important to you, understandably.

Are you sure that your dog isn't still in labor? Being in labor will make a dog disinterested in sitting still long enough to nurse.
If no other puppies are forth coming then I wonder if this is her first litter? She may not know what to do. You may have to hold her down and let the puppy nurse.
Sometimes a momma dog knows when a puppy is not well enough to make it and they will ignore it so inspite of what you promised your dad you may have to face this fact.
Keep the puppy warm and try to help it to nurse. If this does not work you need to get seek professional help ASAP as this little newborn won't go very long without some kind of nourishment and they can dehydrate quickly at this age.

And so,it's 8 hours since your question and we can't email or IM you to see what is going on.
I for one would like to know what is going on and if the momma dog had another puppy? Did she take to nursing the one you were asking about and is that Puppy doing OK?
Let us know.

Sounds like you have to intervene. I guess you've tried to put the puppy by one of the nipples to see if it will nurse. You can also try to extract some milk to try to interest the puppy in latching on. Nonetheless, you need to go the the pet store or farm store and get a tiny bottle, nipple and milk replacer and ask them what to do. Good luck. The puppy will have to be fed real often until the mom's milk comes in. Keep the puppy warm in a wash cloth that you have warmed up in the dryer and pet it and poke it gently to keep everything moving and stimulated. I agree that you need to call a vet.

Your dog may not want to be a mom. Take them to the vet or get some formula and bottles from the pet store. She may eventually come around to it, but she might not, so you may want to find someone with a nursing dog to foster the pup until she can eat solid food. Good luck with the puppy, losing a baby can be very hard.

I would try bottle feeding, if the mom won't feed it anyway. Also if the mom is ignoring it there could be a problem with the puppy. Maybe talk to your vet. Though I do suggest bottle feeding.

I do not know about dog birth and nursing. Common sense says that it has only been 5 hours since birth. Both mom and pup must be so exhausted. Also, sometimes it takes awhile for the milk to come down. I would wait awhile before interfering. I could be wrong however.

Most dogs have more than one puppy. And if more than 2hours passes, and the mother dog isn't caring for the puppy or hasn't cleaned or nursed the puppy, you need to take them to an animal hospital. Put them in a box or laundry basket with a blanket on the bottom, and take them ASAP. The mother dog could die.

Call the vet and ask them what to do. I think the puppy should have fed already. Is the mom with the puppy or is she ignoring it? Vet's have emergency answering services if your vet is closed for the day. Just do it quickly!
