This question belongs in the Physics area. But anyway: Energy is the ability to do work. Work is force acting over a distance, which causes a change in the speed, physical state, or energy state of matter.
work = force x distance
energy = (1/2) m v^2
energy = (3/2) k T
energy = hf = hc/L
The amount of energy limits how much work can be done. If the intention is to change chemical energy into ordered mechanical energy, the change is never 100% efficient because some energy is lost in the form of heat. So when you add up the amount of energy was successfully transformed into work, it's always at least a little less than the amount of energy you brought to the task.

If you look up the units of meaasurement for work and energy you'll find that they are the same
Work is defined as force applied over a distance. Force is measured in newtons with 1 N= 1 kg m/s^-2
So work is defined in joules with 1 J = 1 kg m^2/s^-2
Energy is defined by Einstein's equation E=m c^2 with m in kg and c in m/s you arrive at the same units. Hope this helps.

Work is the product of energy in motion or a simple definition is that energy is the ability to do work.

You must do work to create energy. You create potential energy that later turns into kinetic.

think about a spring, it will release energy, but only if you wind it (work) also in physics, they have to be equal. the work put in will only release the same amount of energy.
