One word of advice, $150 Monster Brand cables will do absolutely nothing more for your reception than a $30 dollar HDMI but they will drain your wallet in a big hurry. Be aware, this is a scam they REALLY push at Best Buy and it's a scam indeed! Consider this, HDMI is digital and thus ALL info is transmitted as 0's and 1's. Neither of these numbers could care less if they travel on a $30 dollar cable or one costing $150, the nature of digital is that you either receive a signal or you don't, a picture or a completely black screen. Don't be suckered, stick to ANY cable in the $20-$40 range in either flavor be it HDMI or Component and you'll be assured of as good a picture as you'll ever get.
As to were to buy, just about any place that sells cables will do, in fact I bought my RCA 6ft HDMI at Walmart for $35. Two weeks and one thrown away receipt later I found the exact same cable at K-Mart of all places for only $29.99. Really though, anything from a reputable company such as RCA or Phillips will more than suit your needs. And if a body wants to shop on line there are the likes of Monoprice and Blue Jeans Cable to fulfill your every desire, helpful if your going with multiple cable connections such as in a 'Surround Sound' or Home Theater set up as the extra dollars saved start to add up quickly. So there you have it. I hope this helps in your decision making process. Good luck and have a very Happy New Year.

HDMI is used to transfer a Digital signal, which is far less immune to interference and noise than an analog signal (say, component). So, for short cables, as long as the connectors are soldered properly, you should be OK.
The only case where a cable with better shielding and special wiring (and thus higher price) will make a difference is on very long cables.

No. Composite cables will in effortless words go as a lot as 480i determination. element vs. HDMI is a more durable evaluation. On paper, HDMI is extra ideal because it truly is digital and it helps as a lot as 1080p determination. element is analog and helps as a lot as 1080i determination. yet, we are in effortless words speaking about a wide-spread DVD participant that performs DVDs recorded in 480p. until eventually you've a fancy BluRay or HD-DVD participant, element will be equivalent to HDMI. i does not purchase a clean DVD participant to get HDMI. Nor ought to I pay extra money for an HDMI cable, until eventually you'll hit upon it less costly for $10 or a lot less. the final analysis is that your known DVD videos will seem as if crap on a 1080p television because of the large scaling it truly is in touch. 1080p TVs are in effortless words good in case you intend on taking section in 1080p content cloth. 720p TVs seem extra ideal with SDTV content cloth than 1080p TVs.
