Go to YAHOO! and type in "dog breed selector" Several questionnaires will come up. They will ask you about your lifestyle and preferences. This should give you a good idea about the breed good for you. Once you get it narrowed down, go to akc.com and look at the breed standard. then you may want to volunteer at a shelter or rescue so you can meet the dogs in person and see if you connect. Another resource might be to go to a dog show. Whatever you do, don't go to a pet shop or a backyard breeder

Strictly speaking on "little dog" temperament, a shih tzu is very social - both with other dogs and with people. You really want to "watch the breeder" (check them out, pay attention to any "uh oh" feelings you have) of any type of dog you buy from, though. Obviously, you can get a nasty temperament in any dog and in any breed of dog. Your poodle may take less kindly to another female (one she wasn't raised from birth with, I mean), but that's open to debate depending on who you ask. ; ) I think we're getting a lot of thumbs up on breeds people like, and thumbs down on the ones they don't.
Check out the American Kennel Club website (link below), where you can read about temperaments and watch videos on the different breeds.
Whichever breed you ultimately choose, it will take most likely a few months for your adult toy poodle to fully accept her new companion. At least that has been my experience with introducing various adult dogs (whatever the breed) to a new "sibling".

I would recommend a Lhasa Ahpso. I had a female who lived for 14 years. She was the sweetest and gentlest dog that I had ever had. We would take her to the nursing home and she would let all of the residents pet and love her. When we got grandchildren when Cuddles was 11 years old, she never was impatient or snappy with them. She was always extremely tolerant. I had a toy poodle and I would say that the Lhasa was much more gentle and calm. I would get a female, however. Males may have a more defensive nature.

If you do not mind the grooming required with poodles you ought to consider another poodle. Otherwise, you could consider a terrier type such as a Puddin Russell. Any type of Russell does require socialization from early on or they are real little buttheads, but if properly socialized they are just TOO much fun!
I agree with whoever it was that said to check out your local animal shelter. You will be amazed at the types of dogs, many purebreds, that they have. Be a hero, save a life, adopt a shelter dog.

Unfortunately, no one can really answer this question for you. You haven't told us anything about your work schedule, your financial situation, your lifestyle, your activity level, your home situation, etc. Any answers you get will just be uneducated guesses from children telling you their favourite dog - dogs that may be a terrible match for you.
The best thing you can do is visit a shelter or rescue group and see if a dog fits your needs. http://www.petfinder.com The next best thing is to watch a dog show - they are constantly on Animal Planet and USA and write down maybe 10 breeds that appeals to you. From there, visit http://www.akc.org and go to the "breed" area. On the left will be a link to the breed flyer, breed club, and breed rescue group. Click on each one and learn as much about the breed as possible.
From there if you decide you want a purebred puppy, read sites like
http://dogplay.com/gettingdog/index.html...
and
http://www.geocities.com/bluegracepwd/wh...
to help you find a reputable breeder.
Good luck to you

I suggest a beagle. They don't get very big, and they are great dogs. The main problem is that their hounds, so they like to run off. They also have an annoying bark. Also maybe a pug, chow chow, or chiwowa (I know it's misspelled, but spell check isn't working...).

Ä° would recommend you to get a yorkshire terrier or a maltese but it also depends on your dog's personality and your training level and the time you can spend with your dogs.

I think another poodle would be great! However, miniature dashunds are nice dogs too.
