My mother came for a visit yesterday and asked, "You love that dog more than me, don't you?" Of course, I said, "No." After she left, I really examined my feelings. I love my mother but I guess I hate her behavior much of the time. She nags, is a negative person and a complainer. She's unsympathetic and irritatingly impatient. The list goes on and on. My dog, however, never naps, is always upbeat, and loves me unconditionally. She always happy to see me, accepts me for who I am and is devoted. I can't apply these same traits to my mother and other members of my family. Does anybody else have feelings like this? I just love my dog so much!

Oops, I said, "My dog never naps" and I meant, "My dog never NAGS." Of course, she NAPS, lol. And it's so cute!

Your dog doesn't know any better, she only loves you because you take care of her and feed her.

Humans are very different and are more complex than dogs. I would never love an animal more than my mother regardless of how crappy our relationship has been.

I know exactly what you mean. My dogs are like my kids and I treat them that way, my mother in law even calss them her grand doggies. It is not wrong to love your animals this way, I think it's the only way to treat animals if you have them. Your mother may be upset because she doen\sn;t see this affection from you and doesn't understand why. Have you explained how you feel to her? If not maybe it could help your situation a great deal, after all we can't fix what we don't know is broken!

I definately understand you, although I don't have a dog. I love my HAMPSTER more than some members of my family. My parents are so cold to me. Every time they come to my house, I get the chills. I feel like there's no love there. They're just doing their job as parents. And that drives me insane. So totally understand you.

It really is not acceptable to compare your mother to the dog. Humans and dogs are quite different I love my dogs and my family just in different manners.

I am right there with ya!!!!!

We love our parents because we are related to them - we dont pick them...we love our dogs because we choose too and you are right they love us unconditionally- if I think about it most people besides our spouses do NOT love us unconditionally they say they do but they dont---they love us if we do, act, live, and breathe the way they want us to as thier children...if we stray then resentment builds up , disappointment follows etc....they say they love you unconditionally but if you think about it-they dont....

Keep LOVING that dog!!! He is a lucky one...and he wont hate you if you drive the wrong car, date the wrong boys, have the wrong job or go to the wrong church.....

Keep Rockin,
Aero

there are alot of times where i do treat my dog better than my family members. the reasons why i do treat him like this are because alot of times he has little accidents in my parents room and my parents get mad at him, so they hit him and smack him and i really dont like seeing it. so, after they are out of my and my dogs sight, i give my dog a bit hug and a kiss, too make him feel better.and alot of times when this happens, he stays right next to me for the rest of the day just to feel safe.he is my bffaeaeaea..(L)

It is just because you are loved so much by your dog! It is natural to return love when it is given.
