It is unlikely they will start a draft because modern warfare has changed. People need special skills to serve in today's military, not just marching and shooting. Even marching and shooting isn't what it used to be. Our population of overweight, video-playing urban youth will be difficult to transform into a modern fighting force even if they are willing. Unwilling? Let's just say that we would be a bigger danger to ourselves than the foreign armies would have been......

The draft will not be reinstated as long as a Republican remains in the White House. We have had an all volunteer military for around 30 yrs & it has resulted in the finest fighting force the world has ever known - they are there because they want to be. The draft would screw this up. So, worry not, your sorry little cowardly liberal butt won't end up in the military unless you enlist, which doesn"t seem likely & that's a good thing !

The Draft should be re-instated...Permanently..every able bodied American should serve in the Military...Of course, the down side is we get cowards and whinny basta*ds.
All branches see the front lines at one time or another....Today, the Navy is probably least likely to have one on one combat, since no other country has a significant Navy or Air Force. Would it be a Weasle move??? Not if you join up....only if you Dodge the Draft.that's being a downright Ninny Coward

Quite frankly, I do not believe the Democrats would start a draft system. I think they will be able to take care of the matters in Iraq a whole lot earlier than Bush's party. As far as volunteering if it is obvious the draft will start, I would be like you and get into a branch of service I felt appropriate for me. The Navy, I believe, would be my choice.

Let me first express that I support the war in Iraq but think that the draft is unconstitutional! If you make someone enlist your just getting someone who doesn't want to be there to confuse things. A draft? No, not right now. If things heated up between other hostile foreign entities I could see one coming. Not right now though...

the only way a draft will be initiated is if we get attacked by another country while we are fighting in Iraq. We have enough man power to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we do not have enough man power to fight another large conflict. That is the only way I can see the government initiating the draft.

You would have to see like, 500 9/11 attacks before they would institute the draft. The Vietnam generation (who just happens to be the influential voters now) would castrate any politician that would even udder the word "draft".

reinstating the draft takes a act of congress, so you will have plenty of notice. secondly the navy is probably the best branch to join to not see combat, but the air force is good too. i really doubt the draft wil be reinstated although that Democrat from New york, senator rengle, or something like that is pushing really hard for it

Yes the demos will restart the draft if they can figure a way to blame the reps for doing so. But they would rather spend the money on welfare buying votes than protecting the country.
