Rarely does ANY dog turn for no reason. There are PLENTY of warning signs given before ANY dog attacks. NOT JUST PITBULLS. Most of the pitbull attacks are not pits at all, but other breeds that people "thought" was a pit.

If you are thinking about the MYTH about the brain swelling, and making a dog turn, then no, that is not true. It started with dobermans, went to rotties, now its pits. THER IS NO SCIENTIFIC BASIS FOR THIS

Pit Bulls like any other breed are a product of their raising. They by their nature are very loving loyal dogs. There are some lines of breeding that are aggressive and that is because the breed has been exploited for their strength. Just as any breed, breeders look for certain qualities and keep breeding for it. We have a Pit Bull that is the sweetest dog alive and is bullied by my much younger Lab. He came from a line that was used as pets and not for fighting. There are several other breeds that are naturally aggressive and are known to turn on anyone. It is all in the breeding and raising of the dog. If you buy a Pit from a fighting line you may end up with a dog who has agressive tendancies. But an experienced owner can deal with and work with a dog. Like the Dog Whisperer Ceasar Milan, he loves the strong breeds and teaches people how to handle them. Alot of times if you do not raise, handle and train a dog properly no matter the breed you can end up with serious problems.

It is the way they are raised. Dogs turn on humans because they are afraid or insecure. Even a Golden Retriever will turn on you if it has been mistreated. There are a lot of pit bulls out there that make wonderful companions. The ones that are dangerous are the ones that are left in the care of cruel or incompetent owners.

Dogs (of any breed) don't "turn for no reason."

Whether the reason is behavioural or neurological, there is always a reason.

Most cases are behavioural, dogs that have been mistreated or not raised in the right way.

Neurological cases are rare but do exsist. However, that is not something specific to pittbulls.

Most of the people who have Pit Bulls have them because of their reputation of being the bada- - dogs that they are proven to be and they encourage that behavior thinking that they won't suffer the reprecussion themselves and that the animal will know who to turn on and who not to turn on.
There are many articles in newspapers every day of Pit Bulls that have turned on their owners.
I don't say that all Pit Bulls will turn on their owners as one of my brothers has a Pit Bull who is as tame as a lamb but each and every Pit Bull has it in them to turn on anyone if and when they feel threatened.
My brother allows his dog to be around his very small granchildren which I would NEVER do. . . as a responsible pet owner, my dogs who are a 42lb female (neutered) Shepherd mix and a 14lb (unneutered) male Yorkie are never allowed to be around anyone unsupervised just for the fact that any dog can hurt someone if they feel threatened much less a Pit Bull who not only bites in a means of protecting it'self but will not quit until it's "prey" is dead. . . . not a good thing for anyone to be around much less very small children.
As my Dad,a Director of our local Animal Control once told me. . .anyone who tells you that their dog won't bite must have a dog with no teeth. . . any dog with teeth bites, the question is,what will it take to make that dog bite?
