I would love to have a normal conversation with people of other faiths without hearing this... I wonder if you are told this all the time as well :)

I've been told that by my stepfather because I wasn't baptized. It's kind of funny because he's married into a Buddist family. I've explored all kinds of religions and consider myself spiritual. I believe people make their own hells as my stepfather has created his. I think my hell is the one here on earth but that this is heaven too. When someone says that to another person, I think it shows how little they do understand their own spirituality, they're so insecure in it they have to make it a private club and are frightened of anyone who has different rules. What sense does their life and faith make if this path they've followed isn't the only right one? Sometimes faith can be cowardice. Give me a path and all the rules and directions instead of me finding and following my own.

I have heard this from time to time from some evangelical handing out pamphlets, once they realize I am Catholic. "Catholics are unsaved and are going to Hell," they'll say, even though I basically believe everything on their pamphlet!

With most other people, they are too respectful to say anything like that. No Jew, Muslim, mainline Protestant, Hindu, or Pagan has ever told me I'm going to Hell. Some of the Muslims I have known have been - for my tastes - a little too enthusiastic about trying to convert me. But they are always respectful.

It would be nice sometimes to have a calm discussion without heavy handed spiritual aggression. There is a lot people can learn from one another!

I've been told this before, and I'm a Christian!
I'm going to hell because I like Harry Potter, Charmed, the Smurfs, Disney movies and The Wizard of Oz.
I'm going to hell because I think we ought to give gay people the same rights as heterosexual people...calling it "marriage" still won't make it so in the eyes of God, and it's about money, not religion
I'm going to hell because I don't believe in hell.....

However, I am scared of Islamic people...I don't intend to convert from Christianity, but I don't want to get my head cut off. If you can get past that, we'll be OK.....

I hear it basicly from Muslims. None of us are qualified to tell who is going to hell and who is not.

I mainly have regular conversations though. It is hard to talk about faith issues with people who are so set on their own way of thinking that they do not give a time of a day to listen why others do not believe the same way as them.

No one has the right to tell you that! I would be glad to dicuss it with you e mail me!
we are told not to judge and anyone doing so is going against the word of God

Matthew 7

1. "Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
2. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
4. How can you say to your brother, `Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
5. You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
only God decides who goes where!

It's the classic response of religious fanatics when they run out of arguments in a conversation. It takes about 10 seconds...

Yes sweet child, I am told I am headed to hell on roller skates.
I am told that I am the Anti Christ and the devil.
I am also told I will be hunted by the righteous.
"Give to them only love and offer open hands. Do not harm them with word or deed for they can not know."

Oddly I have never asked a question. I am forbidden to.
My answers sure have drawn wrath.
Be blessed on your path.

That is a normal conversation with some people of faith, I'd just ignore it if I were you.

Unfortunately it's pretty common among the Christians. People of other faiths on here will usually be glad to discuss them with you without condemnation (which is apparently the new Christian way)

I've absolutely been told this! In fact, I had someone in high school once tell me "You're Mormon and you're going to Hell, but I'll be your friend anyway."

There is no way you can have a civilized discussion about religion when someone is convinced you are going to hell. And some people are just plain ignorant. Good luck.
