Your cold symptoms are common for most uf us. Just use warm water for the saltwater gargle. You don't want to hurt your throat even more. You don't need honey, but if you want, you can suck on lozenges to make your throat feel a little more comfortable until it's healed.

Same used to happen to me. Here's what I discovered . . .

I got the same symptoms you're describing, and I seemed to get the same "cold" more and more frequently, to the point where I would barely get over it, then it would start again. It seemed like I was sick all the time! It seemed like I had a constant sore throat!

When an old college injury began to hurt, and an X-ray found that the bone had begun to deteriorate, I went through four surgeries. All unsuccessful. I decided I had to be my own doctor.

I started taking calcium and phosphorus pills and a colloidal mineral product that was supposed to have every vitamin, mineral, amino acid and fatty acid the body needs.

My foot began to heal, and much to my surprise I stopped getting sore throats and colds. (but it took about a year)

If you're vitamin/mineral deficient like I must have been, you've got to remember that it took you a whole life time to become mineral deficient. It's going to take a while to build back up to normal.

Now I never get real sick, sometimes the symptoms are so mild I don't even know I've been sick until I get a cold sore. (I always get a cold sore after being sick).
