My first car was a fiesta which was fab for me as it was small enough to park and was easy on petrol - corsa, saxo any small car would be good for a first car and are cheap on petrol - a small engine will also get you cheaper car tax and safer as you will be a new driver - go for maybe P reg and above as that should keep the cost down but should still be reliable - shop around don't just go for the first car you see and don't buy from private ads in papers but if you do check thoroughly that the car is genuine and does not have any finance outstanding etc - good luck and happy motoring

something good, safe, not ranked as a high theft veicle, easy to insure, good on gas, easy on repairs......

Toyota Corolla or its identical twin, the Chevy-Geo Prism.

The Prism will be cheaper since it does not have the Toyota badges but it is the exact same car, just with GM badges. Look under the back license plate area and you will see TOYOTA.

Honda's are good cars, Civic would rank with the Corolla except there is such a demand on those cars they are more expensive and higher risk of theft. Plus the Toyota has a better crash rating.

First, what can you afford? New or used? Whose buying the car for you? What do they say? How are you going to use the vehicle (i.e. to/from school, work,...)?
