If this is a litter of puppies, the best thing to do is sit down in the floor or on the ground & see how they react. If one or two come over & maul you with moochies and snugglies, then I would say it's a safe bet that they like you and are going to be all-around friendly dogs. Of the ones who do come to you without alot of coaxing, pick the one that best suits you-meaning color, demeanor, gender, etc.

Adult dogs are a bit tricker. Some one posted before me that dogs pretty much like people, and any dog you choose will love you if you treat it well and make it part of the family.

Good luck!

Watch the dogs behaviour, if it doesn't like you it won't come near you or will growl etc to say stay away. Don't mistake a nervous rescue who finds it hard to trust people for a dog that doesn't like you - most dogs like people, and shown love and affection will be more than happy to go with you to a caring home.

It will sniff you and maybe nudge you. Some dogs will be very excited and topple you and others may want to stay close and sniff. It's harder to tell if your going for an adult compared to a yonger dog. Sit with it for a while and watch how it reacts to you. If it seems very interested in you and happy that you are there, congrats, if not, keep looking.

dont always expect a dog to like you straight away particulary if it is a rescue dog. after a week the dog will settle down and learn to love and be protectivee of his new owners.. treat the dog well and he will look after you

you will just know, they should come up to you and be playful and excited, they may be even a little scared. It's all new to them. But if you see a puupy that is just staying away from you , most likely there is something wrong with it, or something, you will know when ""thats the one"". Its should be very joyous to see you.

They make it pretty obvious. If they like you, they wag their tail and lick you or at least want to sit next to you. If they do not like you, they will stay away from you and maybe even bare their teeth.
