If she is already having problems in her reproduction organs, then she is not a candidate for breeding anyway. She would be likely to have MAJOR problems if bred and allowed to have puppies...
I would recommend getting her 'dressed', as your vet suggests.

I am assuming that 'dressed' means spayed. Yes the vet has told you the truth, there is a much bigger chance of mammary cancer and not cysts but a horrible thing called 'pyometra'. If she gets that she can die within 24 hours. Why on earth do you want to breed from her given the problems there are already with unwanted Akitas in rescue centres all over the UK? Why risk her health?

Having the dog spayed reduces the risk of mamary cancer and womb infections, both of which are potentail fatal. The longer it is left to dress the dog, the higher the risk of mamary tumours. Mammary cancer is really quite common in older dogs, expecially unspayed ones. As to whether you have a litter or not from your dog is your descion and one you must discuss with your vets, as not all dogs are suitable from breeding from. If you do decide to have a litter from her, then there is no reason why you can't have the littler of pups and then after a suitable length of time (your vet will be able to advise on time) have her dressed then, thus reducing the risk of cancers.

Does "dressed" mean fixed? Then yes, you need to get her fixed. Unless she is a champion show dog or a dog that excels at her breed task, she needs to be fixed. The only reason to breed a dog is to improve the breed. Breeding pet quality dogs does not improve the breed, but instead contributes to pet overpopulation and the degradation of the breed.

There are a ton of concerns with having an unaltered dog. If you love your dog, then you won't breed her because pregnancy is a dangerous thing for a dog. You are also responsible to each and every life that you produce. This means requiring spay & neuter contract. This means taking back ANY of her offspring at ANY point if the owners cannot keep them. This means extensive genetic tests and hip tests to ensure your dog is not passing on any diseases or disorders. This means being prepared for a $5000 c-section and hospital stay. This means taking the two weeks around her whelping time off work to supervise the puppies. This means having homes for EACH potential puppy BEFORE breeding her. This means doing home visits and vet checks on each potential buyer. This means a fully background check on the dog of at least 4 generations for ANY illnesses or heridetary diseases. And the list goes on.

If you are unsure about the vet's opinion, get another vet to give you their opinion. Although the chances of cysts and breast cancer may be low, having her bleed for 2 months at a time could be dangerous and uncomfortable for her.

I suggest asking a vet about whether or not it is safe to breed her, and if it is, do it as soon as possible, and neuter her later on.

Why would you want a litter from her? There are thousands (I'll say it again for dogs to) if not millions of homeless dogs in shelters, why add to it?

Your putting her life in danger, get her fixed NOW and quit putting your and your families selfish wants infront of her life.

your dog should be spayed immediately,,,, you are not a breeder and allowing her to have a litter would be cruel and very difficult for you to deal with... she will be a better dog for it and the health issues, as your vet suggested, would be eliminated.... also, remember, if you want a pup,,, go back to your breeder and get another one,,,,,, help control the pet population
