Yes, the diet up here is terrible, but I've never heard of anyone eating chips for breakfast (but I'm sure there will be somebody who has).
Traditionally, a scottish breakfast is porridge, haggis etc but in reality most people have the usual - cereal, toast, etc ...

A fry up can be anything...but if you mean an 'English Breakfast'?...definately no!

EDIT:

I've never heard of a Scottish fry up...and I'm a Scot!, but I assume it is pretty well anything goes given that the Scottish diet is amongst the most unhealthy in the world! The Scots would eat a lump of lard if it was deep fried!!!!

No.

Traditionally an "English Breakfast" has no potato products and a "Scottish Breakfast" may have potato cakes.

But neither (traditionally) has chips!

Though a 'fry up' served as an evening meal - (aka "a mixed grill") - ALWAYS comes with chips!

So if you WANT chips served with your 'fry up' breakfast - you need to have a lovely long lie in...

...works for me!

No not traditonally.

Scottish fry ups often include white pudding, haggis and possibly smoked haddock. Which the english counter-part would not.

A fry is usually.

Bacon, Sausage, Eggs, Tomato, Beans, Black Pudding, Toast and Tea or Coffee.

Sometimes you will find fried mushrooms inlcuded but not always.

I have seen chips included on occasions.

Nooooooooooooo, and beans is an english thing too, a scottish fry up is the best ever, potato scones and black pudding and fruit pudding as well as all the usual things, and of course we have square sausage here too, easier to keep on a sandwich than links!

No - although my granny used to heat leftover chips up on a Saturday morning with her fry up. She was Scottish (as am I) and she had a very unhealthy diet.

You do in some places, like Little Chef or in Buddies on the sea-front in Brighton. But for me personally, if I'm doing one at home, then no, I don't have chips. Fried bread, mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon, eggs, sausages, black pudding, beans - and a large mug of hot tea!! But no chips.
