It would have to be a pretty good one!
Nothing worse than bad poetry.

Personal love songs can be tacky however if executed correctly I guess it can be truely romantic. You need to have the right combination of sincere lyrics, melodic beat and beautiful singing voice.
As for being the ultimate sweet thing to do for your partner, that's debatable and dependent on the person. I think there are other things that would be more meaningful but like I said it depends on the couple.

Love Songs are my favourite type of song, they mean so much and i cry at them all the time. So emotional. If my boyfriend was a good lyric writer/artist or in anyway musical talented id love it, if he wasnt as mine is not he shouldnt bother i wouldnt be able to take it seriously.
The thought would be lovely though

That would be the sweetest thing ever.
And ya know, you don't even have to be good at singing, and the song could be crap, but just the thought of that person had written that song, and maybe have taken them hours, especially for you, can make you feel so special.

I think the year is 2007 and people just don't do that anymore. I'm sure some girls would love this but personally nothing can beat a huge box of chocolates.

I hate love songs. I have no time for that kind of romantic bullshit. If a guy wrote one for me, I would ask where I could pick up some of whatever the hell he was smoking.

I thought so, but it's not the ultimate thing. I've written so many love songs to my girlfriend and she likes them, but the thing she likes most is courage. The courage to stand up for yourself and for her. That's the ultimate sweet thing to do.

depends on how well you knew him and how much in love with him you were, hopefully a lot otherwise a love song could be very very creepy.
