Hunters wear camoflage because deer see in shades of gray! When you wear camo, it makes you blend in with your surroundings. You however must wear orange going in and out of the woods. Once you are situated in a tree or on the ground you can take the orange off. It keeps you from getting shot by other hunters. Its basically for your safety!

The truth is that your smell is much more telling to animals than your appearance. Deer are colorblind after all, and often don't notice even full blaze orange clad hunters in my home state of Minnesota.
I sense that camouflage has become more of a fashion statement or that extra "it can't hurt" tool of the average hunter.
With quite a few hunters with limited experience and willing to shoot at things that they can't fully see, I would definitely choose blaze orange over camo.

The camo masks your silhouette. The orange is for safety. Nothing in nature is that color of orange so hunters will immediately know that somebody else is there. The animals can't really detect the orange, so as long as there is camo to break up the lights and darks along with the orange the animal won't be able to detect you, but more importantly, people will.

Well you do have a point.
But the more covered, the better. Law just requres hunters to where orange vests and hats so you don't get shot by a different hunter. It does defeat the purpose, but orange and camo is better then everything bright orange.

Good question...In most all states, property thats open to public (state own land..DEC..) there is laws that require a certain percentage of orange camo....The reason is a lot of hunters on a fairly small parcel of land..
On land owned by private owners..(you and me)...There is no law requiring orange camo....some wear it for safety sake other s perfer to go full camo to blend in to nature..For example..if there were a group of 10 hunters driving a area of land its best to have on orange so everyone can be seen during the drive..If your still hunting..(in a blind..or walking very slowly without other hunters near by) then full camo is needed...to help hide you from deer..

I use Orange Camouflage and when I stalk Deer, I leave it on.
Being shot would seem to take the fun out of the hunt.
Fast movement and scent well get you busted faster then wearing orange.
But stop to also consider the hunting industry markets what sells, and fuchsia in a paisley pattern would not get the green out of my wallet.

I often wear camo pants when deer hunting because I like my pants I bought for turkey hunting, and the critters don't mind. If you've invested in camo for ducks, turkeys, etc. it seems reasonable to get a some more use out of it.

Most state require the orange for safety. Animals don't see the color. Anything you can do to break up your OUTLINE is going to help you hide. The camo helps you to blend in with your surroundings.

hunters wear camo to use it to blend in with them and the elements they are hunting in. deer see shades of grey so when you are blending in with the background it makes it difficult for them to see you in relation to if you wore a plain green shirt, b/c they would stick out to them as a blob. as far as the bright orange that you sometimes have to wear, deer can't see that or justiry that color so it doesnt effect your hunting. you have to wear blaze orange in texas only if you are hunting in a public hunting area, otherwise it is not neccessary to wear.
