People who say that are not making any sense. They are trying to separate faith and reason. They want to believe but they don't want to commit or admit to exactly what it is they believe in for fear of criticism from others.

They want to believe that they can do anything they want to do, make up all the rules to suit their chosen personal lifestyle, and have God come to them on their terms with no responsibility and no personal accountability. It's a very arrogant and spiritually lazy way of thinking.

It doesn't make any sense to say "I believe" without defining exactly what it is that is believed. Faith and reason can and do go together in the context of the Church that Jesus founded which is the Catholic Church.

This is what the Bible says about religion.

"Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world." - James 1:27

And that is what the Catholic saints have been doing for the past 2,000 years.

Its because Christianity does not have to be contained in an organized religion. It IS a religion in the true deffinition as "demonstration of faith" but many Christians, even if they are a part of an organized religion, are Christians before anything else. If I was a Baptist.. and for whatever reason, the Baptist religion collapsed, I would still be a Christian.

Christianity is a personal relationship with God through Jesus. Not one person's relationship will be exactly the same as another's.

They mean well, and what they say is true to an extent, but I'm not sure if anybody except other Christians would either understand what they meant or care. I think it sounds a little too much like quibbling about semantics instead of discussing serious points. I say that as a Christian myself.

I think theyre full of crap, christianity is in the religion section of the bookstore and movie store, why they say this is probably because they want to be above the attacks that are hurled at them for doing what they do wrong.

It may be that professed Christians have seen so much negativity in "religion" that they tend to shy away from it.

It is true that one who worships God has, or should have, a personal relationship with Him. But to worship God acceptably, one must meet his standards. Meeting standards requires one to conform one's worship to a particular system. That is all religion is basically: a system of religious attitudes, beliefs and practices.

The Israelites did it: their worship was a very specific form and system. It was a religion.

For me it is not a religion. It is a way of life. I have a relationship with The Lord. Jesus Christ died for our sins so we can be forgiven. and i try to grow in my faith everyday i am alive. so it makes no difference what people call it....only that they walk with the Lord.

It depends HOW they use that line. It can indicate theological understanding or idiocy in equal measure, with context as the only guide to which is the case.

A relationship with whom? An imaginary friend? I find it hard to have a relationship with someone that never calls, writes, or speaks to me.

I think they are fooling themselves. There is no relationship if no one is there to reciprocate. Does Jesus/God come over to your house and watch the game with you? Chat with you about fun things? Sad things? Play games with you? MKess with you? Joke with you?

No. It's all in their head. Unfortunately it's an emotional argument, and reason does not penetrate it.

many people have religion. religion is you or someone else reaching up to God and never getting to him. however salvation is a relationship with God and only comes by God reaching down to you,and you accepting his offer for you to come to Him.
