People, this is a moderate question. Some questions are moderate and just to see other people's beliefs. I am a christian and am highly intelligent.

I think intelligence has nothing to do with religion
And atheists (I'm an agnostic but practically an atheist) need to stop being so obnoxious

Religion gives people hope and security, there's no intelligence in that, but when religion starts to deny the value of science because of conflictions in concepts, that's when logic and reasoning should come into play, I think it should be acceptable to not agree with everything in the religion you follow because if you think and explore for yourself, that's how it would be, instead of blindly accepting everything, you can have different values and morals and different concepts from all religions, religion shouldn't dictate your life, you should find religion

Hi. Happy Sabbath. I believe there's absolutely no correlation between low intelligence and people who practice religion. [This is, by the way, an insulting question.] However, every group (of any kind) has its highly intelligent people and its lowly intelligent people. Sadly, there are people who blindly follow religion (created) instead of following God (Creator). Please take time to look at/learn about the individual; not at the entire group. (I need to remind myself of this when it comes to guys...) Take care.

Read Richard Dawkins's latest book: "The God Delusion" - Intellectually brilliant and a good read. For a gentler treatment of religious people with the same sharpness of intellect read “The Mind Made Flesh: Essays from the Frontiers of Psychology and Evolution” by Nicholas Humphrey.

I don't think it's a matter of "belief". There's been hundreds of studies that have shown the same trend. So, yes, I "believe" it inasmuch as I believe all carefully researched and demonstrated statistics.

To be fair, however, correlation does not prove causation. There's many good reasons why people of low intelliegence might also be people of religion.

There is a correlation between people who buy into televangelists and low intelligence, but religion per se - no. There is a relation between religion and people who refuse to actually use their intelligence though.

No! On the contrary! Muhammad was a beyond measurable genius by all calculations. The Islamic scholars like Al-Ghazali and Ibn-Khaldun were rated as great geniuses. Goethe was an ardent Muslim who preached the Germans to Islam.

And don't forget those converts to Islam that are living with us now: I mean Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Muhammad Ali, Dr. Gary Miller,...etc!

I am unsure if it's a lack of intelligence or some sort of personality disorder. What differentiates cult people from the people who don't join a cult? I think they are lacking in something and seek to fill that need with religion.

I believe there is a strong correlation between the inflated notion of their own intelligence and the atheists who must continue to belittle spiritual people who have found peace within their faith.

Those of us who do believe are sorry for you, yes, even all the intelligent professionals such a physicians, scientists, inventors, and the list goes on-----

There may be. Look at the president now. But I am an ordained minister and I have a very high IQ (last time I checked it was 187). I dont force my beliefs on others, I relay information and let them do what they want with it.

,Definitely not! Everyone in my family is not only a believer in Christ but are ministers. All of us have a higher than average intelligence by any measurable standard, except the standard held by closed minded, self-righteous bigots who believe that only those who agree with their anti-religious beliefs are intelligent.
