Here's one I like; I sit astride life like a bad rider on a horse. I only owe it to the horse's good nature that I am not thrown off at this very moment.

I was taught this years ago when I was learning to ride:-

'Your head and your heart hold high;
Your hands and your heels hold low.
Your knees keep close to your horse's sides,
Your elbows close to your own.'

Here's the poem that Ronald Duncan wrote for the Horse of the Year Show in 1954.

'THE HORSE'

Where in this wide world can man find nobility without pride, friendship without envy or beauty without vanity?
Here, where grace is lace with muscle, and stength by gentleness confined.
He serves without servility, he has fought without enmity.
There is nothing so powerful, nothing less violent, there is nothing so quick, nothing more patient.
England's past has been borne on his back.
All our history is his industry.
We are his heirs, he our inheritance.
Ladies and Gentlemen - The Horse.
