Please, I'm not asking about doctrine or dogma. I'm asking about the experience of feeling in contact with something greater than yourself.

What is that experience like of ryou? What are you doing? How does it feel?

I'm sorry - what is that experience like FOR you?

For me, it's things like noticing the complexity of a rose or watching birdflight..those moments when I know I'm part of all this, no more important than a weed, and no less important than a star...it's at once humbling and uplifting.

Interesting that some folks decided to not answer the question I actually asked, but the question they turned it into in their own minds. I didn't say anything about religion, in fact I asked that that not be addressed, nor did I mention a god or gods, just something larger than yourself.

THIS makes me feel that there is something greater than myself, too, and it fills me with awe:

Raven, when I was a little girl I grew up in a house where the people in it were constantly being unkind to each other. I remember feeling such incredible sorrow, and even though I couldn't put it in so many words, I knew there must be something other than what I saw played out in front of me. There had to be perfect love, justice, mercy, kindness. That is when I first remember feeling the presence that I later came to know was God.

Much, much later in life I went to a church and began studying the bible. The more I read, I recognized who it was that had been with me all those years ago. It was Jesus Christ. He was familiar, I knew Him.

For each person it is different, but for me, the one that was with me so long ago now I am well acquainted with.

Sadly, it's kind of like realizing you're really in love--it's a wholly subjective experience that's hard to describe. For me, it often hits when I'm in nature, or when I take a moment to truly appreciate someone I love. Because it's subjective, I don't try to convince other people of its truth. But in myself, I just... know.

What does it mean when you KNOW you've left the gas on and you go home and it turns out you didnt?

Please understand the similarity in the questions and you may be saved - from ignorance.

Of course there's something greater than you. It's called nature. You already know that. You can't resist things like disease and death. There's really no way to stop them. So nature is greater than you.

But a deity? No.
