I believe you meant 'endangered' species :) edangered could be the electronic cartoon versions but I wouldn't know how to protect them! I would say that the best way is education about habitat impact (research). Then comes legislation about building in sensitive geographic areas such as swamps, old growth forests. But if you personally want to become effective then pick a species you are passionate about, learn all you can and get involved. You as an individual can't save them all, but you may be able to save a local variety all by yourself! Hope that helps.

Take genetic samples from them, store the genitic information for future cloning when the desire and ability to do so is there. We can not stop the deforestation, prevent global warming, overfishing, pollution etc. There are too many people now and for the forseeable future. But, like storing seeds of trees for planting, in the future we could plant elephant, tiger, whale genetics into a suitable "womb" and give birth to new populations. You would just need to have enough gentic material to give many examples of the species (otherwise every "new" extinct animal would look the same)
