i'm from england and love the american brekkie! You have just gotta try a shortstack of pancakes with eggs hash brown and bacon. its a bit weisrd them all being onthe same plate and being offered syrup (bacon and syrup????) I just turn doen the syrup and ask for lemon and get some very strange looks lol. just remember amricam bacon it cut differentl and is usually very streaky and usually overcookd to what we do here. Have fun and experiment its what being on holls is about!!!

Man the variety of breakfast food in NYC is incredible. A lot of your choices are about what day of the week it is, what you do for a living and really important do you actually have time to sit down and eat it ?
If your doing construction type work you may go into a deli and order a bacon and egg on a hard roll to go
if you're an office worker maybe a danish or a muffin to go
you can go into a coffee shop or a diner and get a couple of eggs any way you want w/ bacon, home fries toast and coffee or you can order about 30 varieties of omelette's. NYC has the best and greatest variety of bread in America so don't order white bread but do order the Jewish Rye.
At diners and coffee shops portions tend to be large , actually as a rule NYC portions are large.
Sundays are reserved for serious food like bagels and lox and cream cheese
A ritual unto itself
If you happen to find yourself in the area of 80th and Broadway stop in Zabar's which is one of the great food store in America , take some time to sample their wares
New Yorkers eat 24/7 , they take food very seriously and they know what they are eating.
Enjoy

You can get anything you want. Most diners have breakfast specials of 2/3 eggs any style, bacon or sausage with toast or (what the Americans call) "English Muffin" and coffee, sometimes juice is included.

On a typical morning we usually have-
coffee, orange juice, toast, grapefruit, hash browns, two eggs, waffles, 3 sausages, bacon, tomatoes, steak, muffins, a bagel and a couple of slices of cheese.
If Im peckish I will also add some french fries, syrup, a bowl of cereal, half a roast chicken and a couple of chorizo.
If im extra hungry a may throw in-a hamburger, a corn dog, 2 chilli dogs, a rack of ribs and a chocolate milkshake.

Listen this. I lived in Queens for a while and used to visit 'Dunkin Doughnuts' in the morning for breakfast. The first week I was there I ordered beans and egg on toast. You would forgive me if i looked confused when the guy gave me one plate with toast on it, one plate with 2 fried eggs on it and one plate with a portion of beans on it. This happened 4 times on the trot by the same guy despite me explaining I didnt want it like that. I suppose at the time I found it amusing but sad that the communication was as poor as it was.

If it's a quick on the run breakfast, either a bagel and coffee or yogurt and coffee.

If I have time to do the whole nine yards - my choice is french toast with a side of bacon. My mom likes pancakes, and my dad likes scrambled eggs, hash browns, and sausage.

When my friend and i visited New York we found a really nice place on West Broadway (just south of Chamber Street) did a breakfast called The Lumberjack. Really good value and it was amazing, it really set us up for a day of shopping. (to be honest it was too big a breakfast I had to ask for a doggy bag but it meant that i didnt need lunch) it was a combination of bacon and pancakes and loads of other stuff. But it depends on where you are staying, our hotel was in Tribeca so we were really close to it. But if you are in the area especially if you are going to Liberty Island, it is well worth a stop.

in New York you can get anything you can think of -- if i'm in a hurry - bagel&cream cheese with lox (smoked salmon).. more time -- stack of pancakes, sausage,... and if I'm really hungry I'll add eggs and hash browns. of course, there's always steak and eggs , muffins, cereal, etc...---- it's probably the most wonderful city in the world for breakfast ( and everything else). but, you may have a hard time finding baked beans on toast on a menu --

Look for the breafast specials on the menus, depending on the price the more you got. I liked the cubed fried potato with onions that came with my eggs and bacon. Followed by toast and jelly(jam) fruit juice and coffee. Um wish I was there now.
Pancakes are also nice.

Well I can tell you it is weird.
They have pancakes with scrambled egg, sausage, rashers and toast. Or omelette with pancakes.
I moved here to Canada from Ireland and that's the usual breakfast fare when eating out for it.
