I know my black lab shedded pretty bad. Do the yellow labs shed the same, more, less? What about retrievers?

I would guess that all labs shed at the same rate. It really depends on your flooring/carpet. If it is dark, yellow lab hair would be more noticeable, and vice versa. If you allow your dogs up on your sofa, than visibility of shedded hair is an issue. I have a golden retriever that sheds quite a bit, but it is often difficult to see her hair in the carpet, because the shades are close (no, we don't have yellow carpet!). When we allow her on the couch, she leaves patches of yellow fur.

But honestly? I think you'll be cleaning up shedded fur whether you get a lab or retriever. If you're looking for a dog, try a shelter and pick the dog you like the best, not the dog that will be the most convenient.

Well the yellow labs have short hair so they don't shed as much as golden retrievers. Black labs have short hair too so they don't shed also as much as Golden's. Golden's are long hair dogs and they, do shed the most.

I have a yellow Lab and my boyfriend has a black Lab. The black Lab only shed in seasons and with regular brushing it is not a problem. My yellow Lab was shedding more but after a diet switch I have no problems.

Yellow labs shed, A LOT.
Golden retrievers do not shed as much.

Chocolate, yellow, black are just colors they have no bearing on things like shedding, temperament or anything else. Golden Retreivers shed as well. Their hair is often more noticable because of the length.

Goldens shed a LOT. I know mine do. They also require a lot more grooming than labs - get used to almost daily brushing, and once a week or so the hair on their paws needs to be trimmed down to the level of their pads and between their toes. As with labs, it's also important to pay special attention to cleaning their ears, as they are prone to ear infections.

Please consider adopting a Golden from a rescue if you are getting one - or do lots of research in finding a RESPONSIBLE breeder. Goldens are a popular breed, and there are a lot of irresponsible breeders out there.
