It's not really lazy, just blah. Just getting in the shower seems like it takes massive effort. I want to do it in my mind, but I can't seem to get myself motivated to do the simplest things. How do I get myself out of feeling like this? I am stay at home mom and all I really do is sit around the house day in and out because by the time my husband comes home I don't feel like doing anything. I do the same thing everyday, clean the house, cook food, take care of the kids and now I just don't feel like doing anything. I will be getting a job and car and stuff soon, but what can I do in the meantime to make myself feel better?

Honestly, being a stay at home mom is not a full 8 hour day. You have time to do things. You just need to do it.

If you're in a rut, look into yourself and ask yourself how you want to better yourself and work towards that goal.

Just get up and do it. Don't let fear block your path.
Also, find something you enjoy and do that too.

Stop making excuses and STOP accepting those excuses as a reason for inaction.

For example, if your kids are at school then look at going to a jr college for a few classes.

If you have tots, some jr colleges have day cares where they can watch your children while you're in class.

Also, there's online colleges like University of Phoenix.

Find a project to do. Re-do a room, take up some sort of craft that you like. Just do something that gives you something to look forward to everyday. You are bored and if you don't do something about it, your depression will just get worse. I am 34 and have been a stay at home mom to 7 children since I was 18. I have had a few part time jobs here and there to break up the monotony but when I am home, if I don't have something to do after all the housework is done then I just about go out of my mind. And having something fun or interesting to do makes me get all of the things I don't want to do out of the way quickly.

I found myself in your same funk while being at home. I tried to do fun things, that of course include the kids, like exercise to their favorite kids show. Jacks musical show on noggin is great for this. My 2yr old loves music. I keep it on most of the day. Just moving around can really help. Also i keep some hard peppermint candies on hand and suck on one every so often. THe smell and taste of peppermint will give you a natural boost of energy. It is important to open the curtains and get natural sunlight, exercise just tiny bits to get circulation, and go out and get at least 15min of fresh air a day. Even on cold weather days, getting some vitamin d from the sun. I just walk the dog or take my son out to play while i read for 20min. Make sure you arent also experiencing some depression as well. If you dont start feeling better, check with your doctor and tell him how you are feeling. Being tired all the time could be a sign of being anemic or of Epstein Barr. These can all be found on the internet. Most important, listen to yourself and take care of you. Without you there to be healthy, your family cant be healthy and happy either.

Being a mother is like being in a rut. That's part of the job. Sorry, but you play an important part in your family's success, and you'll just have to get used to being in this "rut" of being mother and wife. Ask mothers from thousands of years ago if they felt like they were in a rut, or if that was their lot in life.
