I've just seen the movie the Excorism of Emily Rose, and I was brought up religious, but didn't want to be religious when I was older in my college years, but in everything I see or read there is always a religious factor that I see in it. I'm of two minds about this and what this girl went through. But, I have one question why hasn't it happened to other people? Why did it happen to her and why was she so sesptable to those demons? If that movie was certain it all did happen, it's like everything I thought of God and life is like a math equation. Is it like light and dark, good and evil, is there always a right and wrong answer?

As the movie said, she was born hyper sensitive, making her suseptible for possession. She had a purpose from God to show proof of demons and God in the world. (per the movie)
Maybe it has happened to others, but isn't as widly publicized...I bet if you researched more, you could find a whole lot more stories.

Never trust the movies to get anything correct. I don't know about the possession part if it was depicted correctly. I've never read about what she went through.
It's difficult to truly know what really happened to someone through second hand accounts and so many years after the fact.
I know that the movie totally misrepresented what happened at the trial and didn't depict who all was brought to trial.
There have been others that either have been possessed, or have felt they were possessed.
No, there is not always a clear cut right or wrong answer.

Is it not an interesting phenomenon that ONLY religious people get possessed by Devils? When was the last time you saw an atheist needing an exorcism??
Its called MENTAL ILLNESS, not demon possession.

It most certainly does happen, just people do not talk about it. I haven't seen the movie, only the previews, but I had gone through something myself, for over 12 years. I wasn't posessed, but almost, and my children saw beings, that I didn't see.
Some people are more suseptable... in the Christian community some might say that they have thier spiritual eyes opened, because the bible says we see through a glass darkly.
Many people see things such as spirits ( demons) but they are in desguise and do not appear to be harmful so people are more readily to accept something that they do not fear.
Scripture says that satan comes as an angel of light.
With this world today where everthing is free for you and I to try or do, " If it doesn't effect me" then go ahead and do it way of thinking, society is encouraged to seek out spirits and it's powers. Many think that telekenisis or esp is from your own making, but in theory it is a spirit acting on your behalf. Sound wierd? Well again, I refer to scripture we are told that evil can influence our thoughts and our actions, and even our dreams, so why couldn't something unseen influence and manipulate and give us ideas that we believe, or know will happen, or have happened? ( esp)
You are correct God tells us about good and evil, darkness and light, wrong or right... with Him, there are no gray areas of confusion, it either is or isn't. He isn't a liar, and it is unfortunate that what I experienced and didn't tell because I thought I was actually going crazy... but the proof is out there, and people are willing to share thier stories to whom ever will listen.
This movie isn't to scare people, we need to fear God more than we do evil, but certainly this movie is to make us more aware, of what can happen and what does happen. Just because science can't name it or figure it out, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. We need to take a healthy look at all things... we are warned that we come against things seen and unseen daily, but does that mean we should be waving sticks and rebuking evil in the streets? no. Things should be looked at very carefully with common sense and discernment.
oh and to add from someone's comment, When I used an ouija board, I WASN't religious. The more I searched for answers that pointed me to God was when the attacks became more violent and more frequent.
Many people think that things happen to religious people, it does, but if you think about it it makes sense... there is a battle between God and satan, and satan hates, abhors God's chosen... if you are doing something that God doesn't allow, ( Such as ouija board, seeking spirits, esp...) and nothing is happening to you... ( and you aren't seeking God, or do not want to know Him) ask yourself why? Because Satan didn't need to coherse or force you, guaranteed if you started to search God out... Satan would show his true colours to you and scare you into staying in his company. Many people do not realize that they are unknowingly entertaining satan and his cohorts, satan doesn't have alot of "work" to do, because he knows your unbelief in God... it's when people do believe, that he has to lay out traps and grandios lies to snare us...

it has happened to other people--another famous one is the true story behind the Excorcist--it was a little boy, not a little girl, but the rest of the account is factual, with names changed to protect the family

i was a little disappointed in the movie actually - the previews made it look like it was going to be really good and it wasnt nearly as good as i thought it would be

Good movie, but it is hard to be frightened of something you know is in no way possible. She was crazy, plain and simple. People who get possessed are simply crazy.
