i use a pc for cctv and is not on the net i had to phone them cos it stopped working and they gave me a code to validate it

to validate your xp go to start>programs>then at the top by windows update there should be a option to validate your copy of xp
validating can be done either online or by a freephone number which you will find on a page if you choose to go by that route

When you install it, it usually comes up with a screen with the boxes for you to enter it into.
