Hi... My cat is 3weeks pregnant & I was wondering if it's ok if I feed her more natural stuff "with" her cat/kitten food?

Like boiled chicken ( cubed-Boneless )
Tuna
Boiled beef

&are there any other home food that is good for pregnant cats?

I always believed that nothing is better & more healthy than natural food, I see how dry & canned cat food look like & I get the feeling that's not as healthy for her as to have real chicken, tuna & red meat 3-5 times a week.

What do you think? Am I right ? & If not, why?

It is perfectly fine to offer her boiled chicken, turkey, beef..meat is a natural part of a cats diet..it is what they are designed to eat. You may want to also include chicken gizzards, hearts, livers weekly. In addition to offering those foods feed her a good quality food such as Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul, Felidae, Wellness, Blue Buffalo these foods are available in both wet & dry.

If you want to feed an all natural diet look up raw feeding for cats and also homecooked diets for cats. Meat is essential in a cats diet, but when feeding you need to make sure it is balanced and includes taurine.

I would steer clear of the tuna. If humans aren't supposed to have more than 1-2 tins a week because of mercury, what would it do to a cat's system? Also, fish are not naturally in a domesticated cat's diet. Not too many cats hang out a river edges fishing for their dinner. There are also specific problems associated with tuna and fish. I occasionally give Trader Joe's cat tuna to my cat as a treat, but that's maybe once a month or less.

If you are adding some chicken and beef that you personally made, it's probably ok. But, it may be too rich for the cat and they can't survive just on that.

The best thing you could do would be to find a higher end kitten food and get her started on that. Foods that use only human quality ingredients. Natural Balance, Blue Buffalo, and EVO are some good places to start.

And please, have your cat spayed as soon as she can be.

Definitely do not feed her human canned tuna. It can be terribly addictive with cats and can cause anemia which you don't want right now. It also contains no taurine which is essential for cats and is added to all commercial cat food.

I would feed her Natural Balance canned food. It has two wholesome sources of meat protein as the first ingredients which is an optimum cat diet (commercial). Wellness also makes canned foods which are the same high quality. For dry food the NB and Wellness are good. Also Eagle Pack, Blue, Felidae, Solid Gold, Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul.

When you COOK any human food the taurine (along with other amino acids and vitamins) is destroyed and she really needs that so I don't think the supplementation you mention will really do anything beneficial to nourish her and I would stick to the high quality commercial foods. A raw diet would be terrific and you really have to do a lot of education as to how to prepare it to give the cat all the nutrients she needs.

you can add natural stuff but a high quality food is the best... if you want some recipes here are some links but you will need to give her vitamins along with the natural recipes so she gets everything she needs.... go slowly in starting any new food... as it will give her the squirts and its bad for her little system...smile good luck

also check out the vet that I used to work fors site she gives some great ideas for your kitty...smile
