It generally costs 25,000 points for a round trip ticket to the continental US. It can be a good deal providing you 1) Don't pay for the card (annual fees make it a bad deal) and 2) Never, ever miss paying it all off before due. Allow at least a week extra for them to process your payment. In 5 or 6 months you probably won't spend 25,000 times the number of people to travel, but over a number of years it can pay off. The question you should ask yourself is "Can I never miss paying the whole amount off each month - not even once?" If the answer is no, then don't do it.

I travel quite a bit and I mostly fly Delta, so I got a Delta Sky Miles card and upgraded it to the Platinum card. I travel on business so my expenses on the card are paid by my employer. The miles definitely add up quickly that way. Reward tickets generally cost about 25k miles, and there are often heavy restrictions on their use. If you already have a Sky Miles account with Delta, you can log onto their website and see if their is an itinerary available for you to get to Orlando. There will likely be multiple stops.
I recently used my miles to take the family to Southern California for Thanksgiving. Delta didn't offer a direct flight to LAX, so I was able to book the flight through Alaska Airlines, which is one of their partners. Alaska is one of the few airlines that allows you to split tickets between miles and cash.
The Delta Sky Miles platinum card also offers a free companion ticket each year that you renew the card. So, if you can't get enough miles for all the tickets, you can purchase one ticket and get a second one free. This will be a full fare ticket and not a discounted one, so be sure to check and see if you are actually saving money by doing this. You also get double miles if you book the ticket through Delta's website instead of through a travel agent or websites like Orbitz.
The airlines are in it to make money, so they aren't going to just give tickets away. But, if you do travel a lot, you can earn rewards quickly if you do your homework.
Good luck!

most tickets cost 25,000 miles, or 50,000 for business class. The amount that the credit card accrues varies but in my experience american express is the best. Just to give you an idea, spending roughly about $5k on it is enough to earn a free domestic flight.
if you are worried about interest, balances dont carry over on AmEx, you pay your balance at the end of each month and no interest is charged. This would be the case on any credit card but AmEx is designed that way.

It would be cheaper just to buy the tickets...They're making money off of that credit card interest...
