I've read about microchips installed into amputees that allow them to control artificial limbs by simply thinking the commands. So eventually, won't we be able to install chips that control all kinds of electrical devices?

Yep...you use it to transfer signals to your mouth and tell your brother-law-law to get off the couch and mow the damn lawn.

Seriously, I read once that pilots are using specially designed helmets to aim and discharge their weapons - hands free.
And I once saw a program where brain waves or electrical impulses from the brain were controlling an electronic receiver which then was controlling another electric devise.

Except for the actual researchers and scientists who are researching and developing these techniques in their highly secure, industrial and collegiate enclaves in laboratories across the country, who really knows at what stage this phenomenon is at?

One thing is for sure, the feasibility is not science fiction - and we may perhaps eliminate all the switches, buttons, dials and knobs in the future and just "think" the volume up or down, or the lights on or off - and, yes, even mow the lawn while we use our time for another endeavor.

It is possible to cause machines to do work with direct connections to your nervous system. The answer is yes - amputees do this with their robotic limbs, and the data receptors of those limbs could be changed and enhanced to cause a lawnmower to function via, for example, radio signal.

Speculation...

At the moment, there is no technology anywhere near that complexity.

In the future, maybe. How far? nobody knows.
