Ive gotta take a lie detector test for a jail officer test in GA. I was wanting to know if anyone knows what kind of questions they might ask? Ive been clean off of drugs for 11 months now and sometimes I want to do it again, but sometimes I dont. I havent done anything what so ever in 11 months. Would they ask questions about that? For instance, Do I want drugs? My truthful answer would be sometimes. Are you supposed to answer questions with just yes or no or can it be a sometimes answer? Also I have to go for a phycological test. What would be some questions they would ask in that? Can someone help me, please. Thank you.

Cannot tell you specific questions as they at randomly ask--some "off the wall" questions------so be on your toes, but RELAX!!! Tell the truth.----------and BREATHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the psych test is usually written--a question possibly could be " I would rather read a book than to eat a candy bar. or maybe I want to die my hair purple instead of play basketball and these same questions could be asked four pages later just in a different way but meaning the same---psych questions are nothing more than goofy questions --------------they just want to see how you handle the question--------answer the question the way YOU FEEL-----NOT the way YOU THINK the people giving the test would like for you to answer it. Take a deep breath, relax, and YOU WILL DO FINE.

I would say your probably wasting your time if you cannot openly and honestly say you have not taken any kind of drugs in say the last five years. Most Departments I know will not even look twice at someone with any kind of history of drug behavior for a public service position. The polygraph test are always yes or no questions, and never a sentence. The polygraph cannot measure your truthfulness after the first initial response. The Psychological test used, (many variations) are used primarily to determine ones truthfulness, and certain patterns of behavior.(e.g., 1. I hate my mother, 2. Sometimes I think about killing myself, etc., ) These are all answered in a multiple choice format.

I've never taken a polygraph test and can't directly address your question. Your example does point out why I refuse to answer yes/no questions. As often as not, both answers are misleading at best. If the person asking can't handle an actual answer, the test is not really valid anyway.

BTW: There never has been nor will there ever be such a thing as a lie detector. At best, the machine detects physiological changes that are believed to indicate dishonesty. No physiological reaction corresponds to lying in all cases. Anyone who states otherwise is hopelessly uninformed or flat out lying.
