Matthew 6:5 is talking about not being a hypocrite and praying out loud so that you can be seen of men....in other words don't show off in your praying. It does not say that praying in church is a sin in and of itself. Jesus prayed in public many times and is our example. He prayed humbly and was always wanting to do His
Father's will..He did not hold Himself up over others.

In Matt.6 Jesus didn't say that it's a sin to pray in the church.maybe you just misunderstood the content of Matt. 6:5-15.Jesus was giving instruction how to pray.He said don't be like those hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men.many religious people pray like that but in their hearts it's empty.they pray with their lips but their heart is far from God.
people go to church for so many reasons....to pray,to give thanks to God for all the blessings they received.to worship God.others go to church just to observed or they go to church as an spectators.
we can pray anywhere and anytime...

Sorry, Matthew 6 is not interrpreted that way. Jesus was speaking about the Pharisees who go to the church to pray loud and long about all the good they do, confessing all the righteousness of themselves before men. Not honoring or giving praise to their God. Jesus was teaching that we should not go to church to raise up our ownselves. (sound a trumpet before you) Men would glory in you and your doings if t hat were the case. In other words, if you are helping the poor, feeding people and doing a good work - you don't need to go before the church to 'tell everybody' in a way that is bragging. We are supposed to do that for people because we love them and are called according to God's purpose. FLocking to church is another issue. The Word says that we should not forsake the assembling of ourselves together. Think about it - all week you have been out there in the world dealing with issues, praying and trying to keep it together. At the end of the week you will either 'go party with your friends' or party with your church people. Being with people who think like you is natural. You build each other up, you provide comfort to each other and in the church world, if you have a good pastor teacher, you are being taught - given more seeds that can be planted and watered and grow up in you so that you become a strong tree and provide shade and goodness to someone else. If you stay away from the church for whatever reason, you are standing out there alone and being separate allows the evil one to trick you, make you think you are unworthy and play games with you. Even trick you and take your life. I could never stay home from church. Even when my mom died, her funeral was that Sunday night - but I was at church Sunday morning - on my post - playing music and singing to the glory of God and in return I gained strength, love, encouragement and support for the evening. It's never a sin to pray in church - just know what the prayer is for - to talk to God, give him glory for all he has done and to thank him.

It doesn't say it is a sin. It says that "when you pray do not be like the hypocrites for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners TO BE SEEN BY MEN" This is the key, these hypocrites prayed to impress and out of pride - not in humbleness of heart and out of a need for God. That is why it says that God wants us to pray in secret because if you can do that sincerely without anyone around you listening - you are really praying to God because of your love for Him not to impress others. It is great to pray out loud in church as a body of believers in agreement to what God's word says and in agreement with each other. Hope this helps!

In Matthew Chapter 6:5-6, Jesus states:
"When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret."
Here Jesus is talking about the proper attitude when approaching personal prayer not group prayer.
Jesus went to Temple or a synagogue on the Sabbath for group prayer. Actions speak louder than words.
With love in Christ.

"“Also, when YOU pray, YOU must not be as the hypocrites; because they like to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the broad ways to be visible to men. Truly I say to YOU, They are having their reward in full. 6 You, however, when you pray, go into your private room and, after shutting your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; then your Father who looks on in secret will repay you. 7 But when praying, do not say the same things over and over again, just as the people of the nations do, for they imagine they will get a hearing for their use of many words. 8 So, do not make yourselves like them, for God YOUR Father knows what things YOU are needing before ever YOU ask him." -Matthew 6:5-8
Jesus prayed publicly, in sincerity, as did Paul and others. He also recommended private prayer. (Mt 6:5, 6) But Jesus condemned ostentatiousness in making long prayers for a pretense, a practice into which some of the scribes had fallen. (Mr 12:40; Lu 20:47) However, Christians adopted many of the customs and practices of the Jewish synagogue—ones that God did not disapprove—and the same attitudes and postures of prayer are mentioned in the Christian Greek Scriptures. Nowhere do they give support to a facial or bodily attitude of assumed piety and sanctimoniousness. They do not make any given posture, such as placing the palms together or clasping the hands when offering prayer, essential. In fact, prayers can be made silently and completely without outward manifestation, when the individual is carrying on an assigned duty or is faced with an emergency. (Compare Ne 2:4.) Christians are told to carry on prayer “with every form of prayer and supplication.”—Eph 6:18.
He wasn't necessarily saying it was a sin to pray in a building that was dedicated to the worship of his Father. He was saying that the heart attitude was the main concern
He therefore warned not to because by association the ones who truly wanted to be heard by God might take on the same kind of attitudes as the condemned religious leaders of his day.

In this chapter, MATTHEW is recording what Jesus said about people who went to the synagogues and literally sounded trumpets or rang bells so everyone would notice that they were there. They prayed loudly in a manner to draw attention to themselves. And when they gave to the poor, they made sure others were watching. These people were seeking the praise of others and were not there to praise God. Jesus is saying that out relationship with God should be personal and private, and that when we give donations it should be done privately and quietly. He is addressing the motivation of those making a great show of their religion so other people would notice them. In ANY literature that you read , it is necessary not to just select out certain words or phrases to quote, but to read the text in its entirety and deduce the author's meaning. If you read a grocery ad and it says,"get one free" about a certain product, you cannot choose to ignore the CONTEXT. The other part of the sentence or ad usually says,"buy one...". So you then know that if you buy one item you get another one free. You cannot just select out the words you want. But, I think you probably already knew that, didn't you?

Jesus NEVER said this is a sin. What He means is, do not pray for 'show'. Jesus went on to say 'But you, when you pray, enter into your closet...
The word 'closet' is not meant to be taken literally, but means that our praying must not be done for SHOW;if we make God's interest our own,we are assured that He will make our interests His own'
The next verse Jesus says not be repititious in your prayers, but this is precisely what Catholics and other religions do. God doesn't like reruns. Pray from your heart and not as a form of a ritual/sacrament.

"But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you."
Catholicism teaches that salvation is available only through the Catholic church. People are being misled.
The Bible Says..."Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy or vain deceit, after the tradition of man,and not after Christ." Colossians 2:8.
The Bible says, "God does not dwell in temples made by hands." Acts 17:24
Catholic Faith? Did Jesus told you to have faith in a religion?
The Bible Says...Over and over again in the bible, the Word of God, teaches that salvation comes by faith in the Lord Jesus alone.
Salvation is found only in the name of Jesus. Acts 4:12, Acts 2:38, Zec 14:9 No other name, Church or any Group can offer salvation.
Do Catholic can create "faith" through a church to obtain salvation? Salvation is not found in any religion.
DO NOT BE ONE OF MANY WHO CHOOSE MAN'S RELIGION OVER GOD.
"Salvation is found in no one else for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12
Jesus, said, “Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). Jesus did not point to a certain church.

Be especially careful when you are trying to be good so that you don't make a performance out of it. It might be good theater, but the God who made you won't be applauding.
When you do something for someone else, don't call attention to yourself. You've seen them in action, I'm sure - 'playactors' I call them - treating prayer meeting and street corner alike as a stage, acting compassionate as long as someone is watching, playing to the crowds. They get applause, true, but that's all they get. When you help someone out, don't think about how it looks. Just do it - quietly and unobtrusively. That is the way to your God, who conceived you in love, working behind the scenes, helps you out.
