As a Christian, I still need to objectively look at the situation of other religions and gods. If I read the book of Genesis correctly (and other books like Leviticus), I can see that the other gods also exist, but my God (Yahweh) is THE GOD, the creator of everything, even those other gods. So why would I want to worship Wodan, Molech, and so on? Well, maybe for my particular ethnic group, that lesser god made an appeal to someone like the witch doctor in my ancestral tribe. That witch doctor was able to perform certain miracles that convinced the other members of my tribe to believe in the lesser god. And so the tradition continued.
I know some other Christians may freak out by my statements, but actually READ the bible and you will see that Pharaoh's wise men were all able to replicate the miracles of Moses to a point. That shows some kind of supernatural power going through the Egyptian wise men too. They appealed to their gods for that power.
Now the conclusion; I think that the other gods are actually demons in rebellion against God. Those demons use their angelic powers and appearance to deceive mankind. That is why Christians have found the impetuous to try and wipe out other (non Jewish or Christian) religions.

Christianity has not taken over, or you would be one. A cult is actually a religion that denies Jesus Christ as God. So that is the complete opposite of your definition. Did you look it up? In other words a cult would be considered Mormon, Jehovah witness. etc. Who for some reason are considered to be Chirisitian. Weird. I am not sure what or who made you so bitter, but it sounds like you've had a priest messing with you or something. Better get some help...

thats a rather warped point of view, but if you are itchin for a history lesson or a lesson in common sense i will he happy to shove it in your ear.
the bible says to spread the word of god to all corners of the world. the apostle paul is the man mostly responsible for the spread of christianity, especially once it got to rome, and was then spread even faster by the conversion of rome and its vast territories to a christian nation by the emperor constantine. thats why the vatican is in rome, just in case you were wondering.
when you speak of killing in the name of god you are reffering to the crusades, which started when the muslims came on the scene by fleeing mecca for medina in the year 650 or so and mohammed started a vast army that eventually took over jeruselem, the bysentine empire, and the ottoman empire. the crusades were started by the early church to regain these holy lands. this is where the divinci code movie was spawned, by the creation of the knights templar. they too, were betrayed and slain. if they left people alone, they may have lived longer, but they would be disobeying the demands of god. obvioulsy this meant something to them.
if you beleive the bible, then yes, the other pagan religions were wrong. lets not forget the mass executions of early christians, including paul. lets not forget the enslavement of the isrealites. you are, however, free to continue to worship donar, wodan, or even zorkon the space god if you so desire.
this forum is full of christian bashing, and those who find any possible rational to condone the belief that they and you want to believe. if you want to convince yourself that your view is correct, you can always find ways to do so. an example is used with trying not to gain weight by properly and efficiently digesting food. its been proven now that is better to chew your food well, it digests better, you eat less, fats are broken up and disposed of better. but an argument can be made to chew it less, with the assumption that then less of it would have a chance to digest and would be disposed of before it could stick. to a novice it could make sense, but it is still wrong.
what you are doing is paying hommage to a fallen angel, or demon, in rebellion against the one true god. believe what you want, you have free will. that does not change why it took over, which is because it is a message of hope and unconditional love.
your next mistake is saying that the christian faith is a little cult. calling it that is silly. mushroom worship is a little cult, worshiping a shark is a little cult, not christianity. you could call it a big cult, but you'd still be quite wrong. cult means small devoted group outside of the mainstream. so you are wrong again.
this is not to say that there have not been things done under the cloak of being in the name of christ and that ethically have been very, very, wrong. attrocities were commited with the true goals of treasure and geographical gains, mostly during the crusades and during the early expeditions to the americas, but you distort the facts and fabricate truths when you paint with such a broad brush.
finally, dont blame present christians for the sins of christians from the tenth century. If you can do that, I can hold you responsible for the sacrifice of innocent young virgins to wodan, since they did not exactly volunteer to be slit from neck to stoumach in the name of your great pagan diety.

1700 years ago, Roman Emperor Constantine had a dream of Jesus saying, "Win in my name"...the next day he won a battle he was fighiting. Therefore, he insisted Christianity be the new religion in Rome...and Rome controlled a LOT!
Add to that the appeal of Christianity. Christ preached to the poor, telling them they had value. That's pretty appealing, especially when most people are poor farmers who just do as their told. So, not only has the government around you become Christian and spreading its influence, but the message it spreads is "the poor have value"
I should add that they didn't exactly practice what they preached...and still don't today. But that's my take on why the religion spread as it did.

Christians, contrary to what many believe do not dominate the entire world. There are a great many religions about. Taking temporal power is not really a religious act. This is a secular act. Many will claim it is done in the name of God, but this is just a phrase.
Power is the reason why any group takes over any other group.

The 'cult' is anything but little... that's my opinion as a former christian, and they had absolutely no right to do any of the things they did, but it probably all started with the Priorie De Sion. Try reading Holy Blood, Holy Grail... that might help answer your questions, and to some extent, debunks Jesus's Crucifixion, along with the mystical web that surrounds him. It's an interesting read.

You should be very thankful that Christianity took ovr. You could be the son of a temple prostitute.
No offense intended.
Which is more logical and accomplishes the most good? Would you prefer the world was still pagan. Christianity has enlightened the world for ages.

Yes, it does seem a little strange. the very early missionaries were spreading out across Europe in to "pagan" areas, occasionally facing people like the Vikings, and even the Romans, who were not reknowned for being cuddly. If nothing else, you have to admire their guts.
I think the Mary aspect helped, it got the women on side.

Deuteronomy 13:6-10
If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die
Mark 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
2 John 7
For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
