I think this is a great question and I was really hoping someone would have an answer. My husband and I are now ex-evangelical christians too.

I think it is hard for Athiests and Christians alike to relate to us because 1) Christians typically say something judgemental that makes them feel better like "You never were a Christian" 2) Athiests mostly say something similar to "Who cares" so its really hard to find answers from our perspective on Y!A.

At any rate my husband and I have failed to find an organized group of people who think like we do and have had experiences like we have. I am very adiment about starting one though. See, for you and I, we don't just know about indoctrination, we WERE indoctrinated and if you were like me it was deep. So I want to reach out to people who are struggling in church trying to make things work but feeling nothing but guilt for not "doing" the right things or "being" the right person. I want these people to obtain a freedom they don't know exists because they are still caged within religious belief. Its my theory that there are tons of people like us and they will either stay in the system or become bitter and reject it. I think if we can get a special-interest group together that helps people through a transition out of indoctrination, then we really can make a difference in peoples lives and help them be free.

So as far as I have been able to tell, no, there aren't any organized groups that I know of with people who feel like we do. And I think if there was it'd be seen as the "middle child" between Christians and Athiests where both groups wouldn't fully relate.

If, however, you'd be interested in starting something online just contact me, I think it'd be a good idea.

Well, there are some athiest social groups out there if you've decided you no longer believe in any religious doctrine.

What made you "quit" being a Christian? Christianity isn't something you try like a new kind of drink or the latest fade. It is a relationship with the Living God. If you tried Christianity without a relationship with Jesus Christ - no wonder you quit!

I'm not sure you'd need one. You recently learned to exit a group and think for yourself...why undo that by joining another group?
