The word Logos was used in Greek to refer to reason, purpose, ratio, proportion, promise, etc. Contrary to popular opinion, it did not refer to a "word," written or otherwise. The closest it came to "word" was in the sense of keeping one's word. It is not used to refer to the Bible as the "Word" of God.

In Christian theology the Logos referred to two things, which were both identical: 1) The final state of being, or purpose of any thing; 2) The potential form, or essence, of any thing. In this sense, all things have "logoi," or purposes, that contribute to the over-all destiny of the universe.

Logoi are also hierarchical, and can refer to categories. The Supreme Logos is the single, all-pervasive category that includes all other categories, as well as the final state of being or purpose of the universe.

Isn't that a civilizations name or idea of God, a higher power? Possibly Greek.

What comes to my mind is that we use a Logo, as an advertising slogan.

Doesn't it seem in many ways, advertising and buying have become are new god?

Like we bow down to that? In the words of Simon and Garfunkle, And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made.
