Sorry to hear about your aunt. You do not say what type of cancer she has and how advanced she has it but I can say from experience when my mum was ill with cancer (Colon and Liver) and was in an advanced stage is when she started to smell. I was told by the nurses that it was because all her organs were shutting down and there was nothing else we could do. She was in her last days.

Cancer cell devastation of normal cell tissue has a definitive pungent smell that lingers. Ask any cancer ward nurse. It definitely gets someones attention. I think If smokers were to smell this particular smell just once, it would deter them or at least make them think of what they are doing to their bodys. I am sorry about your aunt but it (cancer) will run its course and she will rest in the future.

First of all my thoughts and prayers are with you at you sad time. I do know what you are going through as I have already been through it myself with my late father. Cancer smell is horrible and you can always tell when someone has cancer from the smell of it. My father used to have the same smell coming from him.

When somebody is extremely sick as your aunt, the body can emit a bad body order -- it can be the sickness itself and/or the medication she is taking. Offer her to rub her body with a nice smelling lotion or powder. This may help your nose and make her feel good as well. Be sure to check with her about the nice smelling lotions -- some smells maybe to strong for her and make her feel uncomfortable.

The body knows that the cancer cells are "bad" cells, and white blood cells will be sent there to attack and kill those bad guys. This is pretty much similar to an infection, which we all know how it smells like.

I don't know but I've heard of cases about people with severe cancer have an awful odor even with bathing.

Hope the best for you and your family during these critical times.

Illnesses and the medications to treat them emit fumes through the pores eventually, just like people that eat alot of spicy foods eventually have a scent

The cancer is killing her cells, leaving only unhealthy ones behind, hence the smell.
