Great question....

The answer is they don't respect the OT prophets and actually call Jesus a liar.

Muhammed was born almost 600 years after Christ.

Then he tried to re-write history and falsify the teachings of Christ:
Muslims (and Islam) say Jesus was a prophet but they reject all His teachings ...

They reject Christ's divinity;
they reject his claim to be the Son of God;
they reject his death on the cross...
they reject His ressurrection..
They reject Jesus is the Christ/ Messiah...
Need I say more...?

Don't be deceived. The Islamic god is totally different than the God of Jesus Christ .

The Bible calls Muhammed a False prophet....
"Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is anti-Christ, that denies the Father and the Son. He that denies the Son, the same has not the Father." (I John 2:22)

Abraham sent Ishmael out into the desert. This did not erase the genetics in their make up. Jews are people with a common genetic makeup which many Arabs share. The Zionists who are currently trying to build a nation in Israel are for the most part not part of the Jewish gene pool. They are Khazars who converted and mostly stayed genetically separate from true Jewish stock. These are actually from parts of Asia minor and eastern Europe.. Look up Khazars. These have no actual historical claim on the land known as Israel.

So Mohammed is more of a Jew than these Zionists because Jew is not a society it is a gene pool, which adapts to many different cultures.

What is a true Muslem should be your question and it seems to me the answer would be is he who does his life in accordance with the Quran, in it's entirety and does not take small portions and twist it to say what they want in a certain point in History to achieve a goal which may be completely alien the the scripture's main thrust.

Just as we have people saying they are Jews who are not, and saying they are Christians who are not, and saying they are Muslems who really are not is because people are too lazy to read and study the scriptures. I have read the Scriptures and although I am not an expert, I see no important differances in any of the scriptures. Once the time frames, socila traditions of the times and literacy, and then boil it all down eliminating mans influence through the transaltional process it seems to me the inspirational Author of the Bibl;e Torah (in the Bible) and the Qur'an are very likely from the same life form, thus if you are one who understands the essense on what it is to really be a Christian anyone who says he is a Muslem and their behavior would not be acceptable in Christian scripture then he is a Muslem who has twisted Mohameds teachings for his or his groups purposes.

These purposes are considered sinful behavior in all scripture. power over others, accumulation of large amounts of resources, using others to meet your own goals based in sin.

I can not believe how far off many of the other answers are from the truth.

No, he was a descendant of Ishmael. THe jews are descendants of Israel/Jacob, Ishmaels nephew.
Muslims accept the Jewish bible and the new testament, there is even a chapter in the Quran where he meets with Moses Jesus and a few other biblical people.
THe muslims believe that the bible changed and that Gabriel, (the angle) told mohammed the Quran, or something like that, ask a muslim.
The Muslims hate the Jews because the Muslims want Israel to be Muslim, but its Jewish and it always was- HAHAHAHAHA

It wasn't a matter of going against Jews, it was a matter of following God. Muhammad (saws) came at a time when the Jews and Christians of the region were straying away from God's teachings, much like the Jews were upon Jesus's (saws) arrival. Both, as well as all other prophets and messengers, came for the same purpose, to guide followers back to the True teachings of God.

Edit:
The only two connections b/t Ishmael (saws) and Muhammad (saws) are that they both were followers and messengers of God, and that Muhammad was a descendant of Abraham through Ishmael's bloodline.

"Muslim" is an Arabic word that means "one who submits to the will of God". Because Abraham/Ishmael and other prophets DID submit to the Will of God, following and teaching God's Word to their people, we call them "Muslims".
Muhammad (peace be upon him) was, hence, a Muslim.
And, by the way, Muslims are NOT supposed to go against the Jews. Well, of course, our beliefs differ a lot, but I mean, Muslims are told to have respect for all non-Muslim, even more respect than for their Muslim brothers/sisters.
As for how Ishmael is related to Muhammad, here's how.
Abrahm (peace be upon him) had 2 sons, right? Ishmael and Isaac (peace be upon them both). Ishmale's children became known as the Arabs since that was where he was sent away to (some Arab land), and Isaac's children became known as the Jews. That's why we Muslims say that Muhammad (pbuh) is a descendant of Ishmael (pbuh).

Well, if you look at history, Abraham(a jew) had a concubine named Hagar (Egyptian) who gave birth to Abraham's first born son: Ishmael, then Sarah, wife of Abraham became jealous and sent Hagar away, and had a son of her own named Isaac. First born sons traditionally inherit their father's wealth, property, etc. So, because Ishmael was sent away, his descendants were the Arabs. Thus began the land and rights disputes......So, technically, Ishmael was half Egyptian and half Jewish.....so the Islam came from Judaism.........so to speak......the Jews were considered to be God's people and everyone else were Gentiles..

Muhammad had no religion until he became Muslim. He disliked some Jews and he loved others. Some Jews were very pious and he enjoyed their company. Recently, I think the whole Israel-Palestine issue has caused some tension between Muslims and Jews on a world-wide level. I think most of us confuse Zionism with Judaism. I myself am against the illegal establishment of Israel, but I have Jewish friends and they support Israel. We've learned to get along; the more we talk, the more we realize what we have in common. In Islam, Jews are our cousin religion; we must learn to all respect each other as humans. Peace.Salam.SHalom.

Muhammad was an Arab who lived in the 5th century. He made a great alliance with the Jews who lived in Medina. He mediated their difficulties amongst them so skillfully that he earned the respect and trust of most of the people around him. He brokered a peace alliance amongst the factions, and they appointed him their spokesperson and leader.

Some of the people were making false promises and pretended to become Muslims in order to find out information to destroy Muhammad. These people are called "munafiqeen". It is these people that Prophet Muhammad preached against, not the Jews.

Others have taken his words out of context, Muslims and non-Muslims, in order to propagate hatred and serve their own political agendas. Muhammad preached freedom, love, unity, and respect for all life, human and animal. He said that no one should be beaten or struck, and that he feared God so that he would not hurt an innocent or anyone under his control.

He preached love and forgiveness. People go against each other all the time. We need to listen to the great people of history and today who encourage us to learn more about each other, forgive each other, and only fight to defend our lives and property and to stop fighting as soon as the aggressors have stopped attacking.

What is Society? A group of human beings linked together by certain common systems, traditions, conventions and laws and leading a collective life, forms a society. A collective life does not mean that a group of men should necessarily be living side by side in a particular region and should be utilizing the same climate and consuming the same kind of foodstuffs. The trees of a garden live side by side, utilize the same climate and consume the same type of nourishment. Similarly the herd of deer graze together and move together. But neither the deer of one herd nor the trees lead a collective life nor do they, form a society. Human life is social in the sense that it has a 'social nature'. Human needs, achievements, enjoyments and activities all have a social nature, for they all are closely linked with certain customs, usages and systems of division of work, division of gains and division of the fulfilment of needs. There are certain dominating thoughts, ideas and habits which keep a particular group of people united. In other words a society is a collection of people who are compelled by certain pressing needs and influenced by certain beliefs, ideas and ambitions, to be amalgamated together and lead a common life. Common social needs and the special relations of human life so unite people that they become like passengers travelling together in one automobile, in one aeroplane or aboard one boat heading towards a particular destination where either they all reach or none of them reaches. On their way if they face any danger they face it together and have a common destiny. The Holy Prophet while describing the philosophy behind exhortation to what is good and restraining from what is evil, has used a beautiful similitude. He has said: "A group of people embarked a boat which sailed and cleaved the bosom of the sea. Every passenger was sitting in his own place. One of the passengers on the plea that the place where he was sitting exclusively belonged to him, began to make a hole at his place. If other passengers immediately caught hold of his hand and restrained him from making a hole, they would not only save themselves but would save him also".

Because they are a false religion and an Antichrist. The bible says that anyone that denies Jesus as the Christ is an Antichrist.
Abraham had 2 sons, one Isaac from his wife and one Ismael from his wife's maid. The bible and the dead sea scrolls (written LONG before Mohammad) say Abraham almost sacrificed Isaac but the Koran says it was Ishmael. Ishmael's descendants are the Muslims and Isaac's are the Jews. The Muslim's say the bible has been changed and this is also false, there is no evidence to support this at all and the contrary is true if one would just investigate.

First off, christianity is a religion that worships and aknowledges GOD as jesus. The old testament is the tanach. Which the jews follow. Christianity is nothing but the new testament. They even believe they are exempt from the 10 commandments. Proclaiming that jesus was sent to earth because we as mankind are not capable of following 10 simple rules. To lead to salvation and die for our sins. But then why are so many able to follow them till this day? All of the prophets were/are not christians nor did they worship him. Nor is jesus thier lord. Muhammad(pbuh) was not a jew. He was a muslim. And the ones before him were hanifs. That was the religion of abraham(pbuh). Because during his time, there was no such thing as a jew. He had the same religion to that of noah(pbuh). Judaism was derived from one of the tribes of israel(pbuh). Judah. Or as someone told me before, they were called jews because they lived in jerusalem. But they were hanifs. Muslims by definition. One who submitts. That does not mean praying 5 times a day. That is islam. And muslims don't dislike jews per se, they dislike zionists. PEACE!

EDIT: To answer your second question, ishmael(pbuh) was/is a prophet of GOD. Lah in arabic. He had manifested people to become muslims by definition. Ones who submit. But islam is something different. That is a religion. Hanifs and muslims are the same thing. Ishmael(pbuh) is half egyption and half hebrew(to my understanding). He was not arabic, but became the father of them when he was banished by sarah for she believed him to be wicked because he was half egyption/half savage. So in an essentiel. He converted arabs who followed him into hanifs. Or muslims by definition. Ones who submit. The religion of his father abraham(pbuh). But once again, islam is something else. Hanifa is a different religion, but are still muslims.

EDIT #2: This is how they are connected. From adding to my first edit, ishmael(pbuh) is considered the the father of the arabs. Because that was the land he was banished to and converted many to hanifs. Which are muslims. Just not islamic. Muhammad(pbuh) and ishmael(pbuh) are connected because it is believed that muhammad(pbuh) is his decendant. Like Rastafarianism. Haile Selassie is believed to be the great decendant of King Solomon(pbuh).
