Is it possible to ‘reprogramme’ a person who has experienced...?

..long term psychological abuse without going into catastrophic retrogression ?

‘Reprogrammed’ as in changing outlook in life, wiping portions of memory and other known conventions that come under the header of ‘Reprogrammed’, so as to become an average to fit into a particular society.
Any other definitions and applications welcome.

This person could be hypnotized which good take them to the
points of abuse where they good work with these issues.
