Hi all. I have a old German WW2 Flamethrower given to me by a friend who inherited it and did not want it. I live in UK. I keep the thing locked up securely. It has not been decommissioned. I tested it working on private land some time ago, and it had a range of about 30ft with a mix of petrol and alcohol. I checked the law and it was not clear, as firearms are classed as firing projectiles over a certain speed. A flamethrower does not fire projectiles. Anyway, I just want to know if it is classed as a firearm or a tool and if I am allowed to have it without a license? It is not in my possession at the moment.

Funny, here in the US, it is perfectly legal to own one. They are unregulated by the ATF, unless they are grand fathered as a destructive device, which would only require a $200 tax stamp, totally worth it. Having that piece of history might be quite equitabale for you if you were to ever decide to auction it..

Yes it is a firearm so dont shoot it: just because it doesn't shoot projectiles, it does shoot flames, which they consider the same thing because it still can damage, and it is flying out of a classified weapon.

It is illegial because it would not
be useful in any other situation besides for war. Nobody would go hunting with that thing.
